Sometimes, the jokes just write themselves:

My wife works for B&N. I just asked her of she thought I should take the course. I'd get 30% off.

I can teach someone 3e in a hour...now teach the "Concept" of roleplayingfound in any edition...that's sometimes tricky.

There are no bad editions of D&D, just Boring Players and Unimaginative DMs.

You know what's funny, is reading the text of what you get for that course, it really does sound like some sort of cult recruitment.  "We will put you in contact with a Dungeon Master" yadda yadda... and the substitution of "player" for "character" is ... weird.

Seems ridiculous to pay money for an 8 hour online course on a game that was designed for any turkey to pick up and understand...

Well, if I were to teach the course, I think it would be a piece of cake. Just have to teach the students how to use an Xbox.

What's the difference between first edition, second and third?  Just curious.  Is it only a marketing thing.

i'll give this one a bash.

1st was obviously the first set of AD&D rules (after OD&D and D&D). 2nd was basically additional rules for 1st, new characters, amendments etc - pretty much a money spin and totally unnecessary imo.

3rd was basically a new system imo. its D&D in name only and stands on its own two feet and is seperate from 1st and 2nd.

sounds about right to me?

Al

To be fair, it is listed as a free course.

Ok, I originally scoffed at the idea, but it got me thinking...

If such a course were expanded (and de-branded), it might make an excellent first year elective course: "Elements of Role-Playing".   :)

Of course, the majority of posters on here would be working on their Master's thesis in "Applied Roleplaying Theory",  whilst accepting TA positions to pay for their collections.  Early pioneers like Gygax, Kuntz, et. al. might be doing PhD level research...with tenure, of course.  8)  Anybody hiring?

You have to look at this for what it really is:  a marketing-induced program designed to sell books and accessories.

End of story.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

Shocking, isn't it. But be careful what you say...certain people in this great country have serious problems with corporations actually making money as a goal. For them, capitalism is a four letter word.

Yeah, that can often be me, I honestly wish people COULD live communally.  But I'm realistic, and understand I am in a capialistic country. :)
