There is a very famous quote made by Bill Shankly, who was a manager of Liverpool FC in the '60s & '60s:

"People Say football is a matter of life and death" , " I believe it is much more important than that".

and you know? hes dead right :)

Yale coach Tad Jones, before the 1923 Big Game:

"Gentlemen, you are now going out to play football against Harvard. Never again in your whole life will you do anything so important."

On a side note if I can pull you all away from the world cup for a moment. I took 2nd place last night in a interdepartment tactical shooting competition.

It had two parts, a standard firing line event with both offhand and primary hand shooting along with drawing and shooting from the hip.

The second part was a straight combat course with a low light section and surprise ending. The ending was a shoot or shoot scenario. Thats correct shoot or shoot not:  shoot or not shoot. In the ending your given the choice of multiple targets with 10 rounds to use. All have arms all are facing you and four have hostages. Which do you shoot first etc etc.. You can also lose hostages in that part and each one is points docked against you. The suspects shoot at you as well. Your guarenteed to lose at least one.

I probably would have made first but I hurried a couple of shots on the standard range, one I know for sure I jerked the trigger hard. I lost two hostages, and took three hits from a suspect.  Not a bad showing but I wanted 1st. All in all a great time for me though.

How is it different then this: H3
Beside being a lighter picture in the auction.

Oh wait..no maps on cover..hum (pays to read the auction)
Well checked mine, has the maps on the inside cover..so nope, this auction seems unique (though I'd ask for a picture of the inside cover before bidding)

never done anything like that before - sounds cool tho!

just on another note.....what do you you consider a high number of watchers on an ebay item?

on an even more OT note - Argentina 6 - 0 Serbia & Montenegro  8O  8O
now THAT will give all the other teams something serious to consider!!

Thanks guys, it was a lot of fun. I shoot in compatetition pretty regularly and enjoy going up against other officers. I get my backside handed to me every so often when one of those LAPD SWAT guys shows up for the comp though..

well i think you are starting to whittle out the good n bad teams now. slowly they are being dumped out, tho there certainly have been some surprises too imo. i thought Mexico were utter shite. Angold wont be going much further anyway. Holland looks pretty awesome too. Holland v Argentina! now THAT is going to be one amazing game to watch. You will then also see how good Argentina really are, cos Holland certainly wont roll over and die easily thats for sure!

have to say, i am very much looking forward to seeing Australia again, as well as Croatia.

Oh, I watched part of the Netherlands v Ivory Coast match while waiting in Accident & Emergency (that's a hospital ER for you lot across the Atlantic) this evening.  My friend cut their finger this evening (urgh, blood everywhere) while cooking dinner, so I took them along.

And I have to say that for all the bad press that our National Health Service has been getting - it was great.  We had to wait all of ten minutes and the staff were fast and efficient.  She got a bed in a quiet room for half an hour (as she was feeling a bit nauseous) and I got shown to the cafe (as I was feeling a bit hungry).

In and out (with arm in a sling, plus wads of bandages & pills) in less than 90 minutes total - if anyone here works for the NHS - well done you lot.

FWIW, PayPal apparently just exposed a phishing scam that was a step above the normal so-obviously-fake-that-it-is-to-laugh variety. The scammers somehow got access to a real PayPal URL (the bizarre URLs usually being the first sign of a phishing attack).

Anyway, I sincerely doubt anyone here will be affected, since most Acaeum people seem to have a working brain.* But I thought I'd throw it out there ...
