I have better to keep a low profile... We have the oldest team of the competition   ... Our last goal in competition is dated 1998!

they had a really good opening game didnt they?  :P  they were putting more effort into arguing with themselves than they did with winning the game :)

I guess the coach lifting the ban on sex didn't effect the players after all.. :)

Yes, France 0! We have heard about it!

Media and people here are very critical too about the team and the coach. I don't know if english tabloids give you the rumours that depict the choice of the team. Crazy : rivalry, nepotism, sexual competition...

France 0
Boring boring boring... undone!

Good luck to the roast-beef  :D  Really !

Well we're through to the next round but, as always, England doing just enough to win without really looking like a world-beating team. I hope we show a better attitude and standard of football against the Swedes. We won't of course but that doesn't stop me hoping! :D

Now I can see the tension in a soccer match.  If the score is 2-nil, then the drama is pretty lacking.  But, if it is a one-goal or less game, then it is tension right up to the final gun.   8O

Not to mention a ban on sex!  Talk about tension!

Yeah, it looked to me like England was having a hard time with a team they should have walked over.  I don't know much about Crouch's game, but he looked off to me.

After watching the U.S. against the big C-R, I'm holding with my other home team:  Italy.  Tough group, though.

Oh yes, the World Cup is tension incarnate.  I don't follow league football much (although am an ad-hoc Charlton fan), but the World Cup is great - and now my exams are over (last one yesterday) I can really enjoy it.

You wait until the teams get through the first round, and then every game has to have a winner - so you get extra time, and then penalty shoot-outs.  8O

London is a noisy city - but not this afternoon - almost no traffic, no-one on the streets, just this air of tension that hangs over the whole city.

Yes - T & T did really well - and they actually looked fitter and more relaxed out on the pitch.  Italy should be OK, I reckon you will go through alongside the Czech Repub.

There is a very famous quote made by Bill Shankly, who was a manager of Liverpool FC in the '60s & '60s:

"People Say football is a matter of life and death" , " I believe it is much more important than that".

and you know? hes dead right :)

Yale coach Tad Jones, before the 1923 Big Game:

"Gentlemen, you are now going out to play football against Harvard. Never again in your whole life will you do anything so important."
