My mistake, it's just under $150 billion.

I'm not paying taxes this year.

I think Djibouti sent a few cans of corn...

But I'm not sure how the system of international aid really works.  Many countries turn down the offers of aid.  And many countries which pledge money renege on their promises.  And then there are probably 1001 ways that any financial aid finds its way into the pockets of officials or into the bank accounts of their friends and families via lucrative contracts.

Wait, you're from NH; I thought you never paid taxes.  Heck, you might as well move down to MA.

Kuwaiit sent 500 Million in aid to Katrina victums.  That's the largest international contribution I've seen.  It might have been Qutar, not sure but it was reported on the NBC Nightly News.  I know other countries have pledged money as well.

No offense DL, but it's dismaying seeing someone even having to ask that question.

*returns from another set of boards a little battle scarred*

Having just emailed a moderator of another site to remove my account/screen name because I couldn't believe the immature and nasty attitudes of members there, I'm still astounded that this site exists where we all get along without the flame wars, pointless snidey comments etc.

*settles down for a nice calming cup of tea* ;)

Not as nasty as some I've been in & seen in the past, but just hurtful because I had posted a pic of holiday log cabins my family have in the States only to have it followed by loads of posts from members saying how they looked like shed & if they were poor & desperate they were sure they would love it too. Mildly amusing comments I guess, but really pathetic & totally uncalled for. Sometimes I guess it's best not to share ;)

Oh, you're right about that persons response, it is "cute", kind of nice though to see someone go out of their way to write a lengthy reply, can't work out whether it feels too pushy though.

Hey, ho... Was a strong cup of tea? :?

(wouldn't mind somewhere like that to stay for a bit, WA or Northern OR... on second thoughts, might be quite difficult to return from)

I guess you could read "A bitchy anal retentive would see the slightest flaw as a critical flaw, whereas a reasonable person can see past the wear and tear of normal use to appreciate the value of what they have" either way! Image
