Hi there. I am the owner of white books of 1974 D&D and supplements, but I do not have the *box* itself, just the books.

I have thus two questions regarding the white box:
- What were the original contents of the box?
- Do you think it would be possible to find *just* the box on eBay or otherwise?

Am I just being completely unrealistic to hope for such a find?

The white box contained the three little booklets

Men and Magic
Monsters and Treasures
Underworld and Wilderness Adventures
and the reference sheet

The errata sheet whas only present in the older editions, not in the white boxes

Edit: Here you have all the details Page Not Found

It is possible to find the box only on ebay but its a rare find. AFAIK there has been a box-only auction just some time ago but i think that was for a woodgrain one.

Thanks for your precisions Jupp.

So I guess all I can do is hope to find the right auction at the right time, isn't it?

Actually, Rosenkev just won a White Box, BoX only a few days ago on a $12.00 BIN, much to David's chagrin.

If you see another one any time soon, could you post here? That would be great.

Hello Benoist, and welcome to the Acaeum.

Well, other than the one I won   I saw at least another one in the last three months, but I didn't bid on it.

Actually, to the non collector it is just a box, so the possibilities of finding one are small... but who knows - ebay is feckin' huge  :P

By the way, what edition are your booklets?

Hi guys,

I spotted this thread and thought I'd post.  I have a spare white box available, which is from the 6th print (I think!).

Strangely, someone used it to package some goods I bought from them via ebay!!

The condition is very good to excellent, with no splits or marks and is not crushed, with only a slight indenting of the bottom tray (and this is minimal).

I haven't seen any other white boxes to compare this against (as I don't own the books), but in my not very professional opinion, the box is in damn fine shape!

If there is any interest, I can post some pictures and I'd be happy to place on ebay.  It's just sitting in my cupboard, so it may as well go to a good home.

Anyway, let me if you're interested.

Oh, I should point out I'm UK based.

It has been confirmed that I am officially obsolete.

Welcome to the board.

Before you accept any offers on your white box, can you wait for David (harami2000) to get in touch?  He's been after one for a while but I think he must be away right now as he hasn't posted since Monday.  He is also UK based.

I have put a webpage together, with 11 photos of the box, just so that you know exactly what is on offer.  I'll put it up on ebay in the next day or two and post the url here.  If you'd like me to email or PM you, to let you know when it's up, just let me know!

Feel free to ask any questions.  As I've said, I'm no expert on the White Box set. My era really starts with AD&D  :D

Looking at this page and comparing, this is the Sixth printing.

Fester -- I am interested in your box. I'll send you a PM.

The White Box is now available is now available on eBay:

White Box Auction

Happy bidding and feel free to contact me with any questions.

Edit:  I should add (though the title of this thread should give this away) that this auction is for the box only.  There are no contents whatsoever!

I've got a 6th set that I'll be breaking up and auctioning in a few weeks as well. My box isn't as nice as that one though! :)

Although the prices on OCE sets have dropped dramatically in the last two weeks (to around $70), you might want to reconsider breaking up the set.
Just prior to the last two weeks, complete sets were selling in the $120-200 range.  I'm guessing they'll bounce back some, but who knows for sure.  Food for thought, anyway.

I think you must be confusing this one with something else, or else I'm confused :D

The only OCE sets that have sold in the last 3 months have gone for ~$30 (no box) and ~$60, unless Terapeak isn't finding them for some reason.

There was one set that went for $112, but it had Greyhawk and Blackmoor included.

Back in April, each book (1-3) went for $16.50, with the box+reference sheets going for $17.50.

I'd be more than happy to be shown wrong though  :o
