Just checked my email and look what I find...in particular check out the last paragraph where they want me hit a link and give away all my info including credit card numbers!!!

eBay security check: Account accessed by a third party.

Dear eBay customer,

During our regular security check we have discovered that your account might have been accessed by a third party - with or without your authorization.
Without limiting other remedies, we may limit your activity, immediately remove your bids or item listings, warn our community of your actions, issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate your membership and refuse to provide our services to you if:
(a) your eBay account was accessed by a third party;
(b) we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us; or
(c) we believe that your actions may cause financial loss or legal liability for you, our users or us.
To avoid suspension of your account you will complete a simple form.

Follow this link to provide concluding information about yourself ( this action requires us to verify the SOLE ownership of your eBay account ):

eBay will request personal data (password, credit card/bank numbers, and so on) in this email.

Thank you for using eBay!

Seen that one before. It is clearly fraudulent.  I would forward the email to Ebay and let them know.

If you check the source in the .html email, Brian, you can usually spot these kinds of frauds quickly because the URL that's actually linked to vs. the one that's displayed won't match to an ebay URL (they're often various IP addresses, different host names, etc.).

I get at least 3 of these per day from ebay/paypal. Usually bulk mail/spam filters will recognize the IP of the email and automatically segregate them.

The #1 test for "phishing" emails is your name. Ebay and Paypal always address you by your first and last name and NEVER your username or email address.

I reported it, so we'll see if anything happens. Doubt it.

I know some Acaeum have had this happen before...but this is a first for me and I have been on ebay for almost six years.

Gro - who is Brian?

I think the more active you are on ebay the more they start to appear.  Mine have skyrocketed in the last year.

Does anyone ever click on these things and proceed to enter colorful and descriptive metaphors for the end recipient to enjoy reading?

I dont know if I would suggest doing that because of the fact it is possible to have virus come through by clicking on the hyperlinking, IIRC.

I do it all the time. When responding, I use a colorful two-word phrase that rhymes with "duck clue."
