Weren't we betting on what we thought that this auction would go for, not what our own perceived value of the item is? :?

Yes, we are guessing on actual sale of current item.
Someone...brought up the fact some guesses were way to high and that is where the discussion about relative value kicked in. We digressed ... as these strings tend to do :D

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

Heh

I assume that in Italy you use the comma in place of a period for numerals.  If anyone sees one for $1.45 though, I'm in! ;)

A good excuse for one of your fabled clear-outs, then?
8) indeed for the winner, if so! ;)

Everything needs a good home! Though I must confess, I did something very bad a few weeks ago. Along with a LOT that I purchased were a Deck of Encounters and a Deck of Magical Things. Both the Decks arrived with the boxes completely crushed (they were surely in bad shape even before the damage incurred in the shipping). The cards were everywhere - all mixed up and had no organization.

I looked at them . . .

. . . and then at the piles of stuff I have around . . .

. . . at the top of the bookcases that has inevitably become the home of "odd-shaped" items (and ones that I never getting around to selling) . . .

. . . and then at all the baby toys/diapers bags/assorted chaos left in baby's wake (which becomes a daily project of picking up and putting away) . . .

. . . and I thought about how much I didn't even want the freakin' things around . . . so I just gathered them all up and tossed them in the garbage! 8O

I still feel pretty bad for doing it . . . but what the hell am was I going to do with them? They were a moronic product anyway . . .

Hmm... it is getting up there. I'll guess $ 1,215 and wager a B2 in the shrink wrap.

pleveich

P.S. Get out there and bid on my wife's purses.  How will I ever be able to afford one of these if you don't?

I was going to guess 1,200, but with someone capping me at 1215, I'm not sure enough on it.

Am sure there's a lesson in there somewhere, but not quite sure what it might be... *sighs*

For some of us, it's just in the blood! :P

(Would have been better placed on that previous copy, if so).

Ah, speaking of which, I spoke to Paul and he needs to write a book when the Kuntz auction is over.  Rob is the original font of all knowledge from a trufan's viewpoint without any daggers in anyone's back.  Every gap, every true story, from before there was a TSR to today ...

He's really swamped with the Kuntz auction, every turn shows up with more stuff -- all of it remarkable.

The relevance of this to the Princess auction is that I got a private bid on my B3 -- no names, and Paul is considering it.  His evaluation is that mine is in better condition than this one, so I'm really curious how this auction goes vis a vis whether Paul will take the private offer or push on.

I'm amazed to see it at          US $725.00      with          3 days 22 hours     to go.

Anyway, Paul promised to get back to the private bidder sometime next week (assuming Paul has a mind and his health left), right now he has an incredible amount of Kuntz stuff to process.

Regards,

Stephen

Ah... just think if you'd've listed that a few days ago, Frank...

Seriously, though, there appears to have been a bit of a change to the bidding on the high value items over the past couple of years.
Unfortunately, I've only got a few bidding histories saved to disks (mostly the woodgrains I didn't quite win ) to compare, but the trend seems reasonably clear in my mind.

Nowadays, it's certainly easier to go directly to 80-90% of the "estimated valuation" in the knowledge that it's extremely unlikely you'll end up "carrying the can" and indeed this seems to happen much more. (All it takes is two bidders; Alan and a.n. other, say ;)).
The end result is that, barring total messes such as failed reserves, the prices of the "rare, expensive" items appear to be very firm indeed (and I s'pose it is, given that the final high bidder has to pay the money).
Add to that, the chance of a final (crazy?) leap by a couple of people who still badly want the item still seems to be just about as high as it ever was...

Here, let me demonstrate! :P

(With any luck, no-one will follow... *jk* ;))
