40 here - so I'm one of the oldest  :(

Playing since I was 16 - initiated to AD&D by a friend - and my first character was a fighter called Irlendor of Irlenheim (I still have the character sheet) who later retired with all his riches - containing his most prized possession, a mace +6

Geeeezaa, I didn't realize how old you guys are! 8O … I'm only 12.

Jk :P , I'm 33 and started playing in the 4th grade. What's that 9, 10?

I posted this sometime back, for those who didn't see this little treat it's worth a laugh. :)

I'm thinking of putting this up on eBay after seeing that PHB with the hand drawn cover that looked like your high school folder. This is a unique one of a kind item. It's digest size, dates from 1980, and was completely done by hand. The book is in good condition and contains 22 pre-generated characters (example below). The cover may come into question, as the dragon drawing was plagiarized form a picture inside the Official AD&D Coloring Album. The author/artist waves all responsibility. I will be considering a BIN of around a grand considering its rarity and condition.

   This book contains my first characters, and my first experiences with D&D in the forth grade. On Fridays afternoons forth -- sixth grade had free time in the library if your work was finished. An Indian sixth grader named Rabi was running Isle of Dread and they needed a fighter……..the rest is history. My aunt sold art supplies and gave samples to me. That's where I got the blank page book and silver paint pen. I got the Official AD&D Coloring Album at the book club that year and copied from it extensively. I carried this for a couple of years until I started playing AD&D.

I'm only kidding about selling it. You'd have a better chance getting my Fazzle :D

invincibleoverlord - that character portrait is priceless!

Yes, you'd think that there would be more guys over 40, or even 50, seeing as the game is 30 years old and was originally popular with the (15-22 ?) year old crowd.  That's a guess.

However, just like the ultra-rares, you don't see them very often (or in mint condition).  How old is Mr. Gygax, for comparison?

My first Character name was Ivan The Terrible (studing russian history at the time)  he forgot to buy armour, had a 6 strength (cleric) and got all of his hirelings killed.  made it out of the dungeon with booty though.

I'm the old man here:  I'm 47.  I played my first D&D when I was 16, in 1974.

I'm 25, and "raised" on different role-playing games.  (White Wolf storyteller mostly, a bit of Gurps)  Been piddling in collecting and even playing D&D / AD&D for the last 6 months, mostly 2nd edition because it's readily available minty.  Now that I've found this site, I'm branching into some of the earlier D&D, when affordable.  I'm a reseller, started to do it as a means to add to my collection of White Wolf.  Now I do it pretty much full time which allows me to stay home with my daughter.

Played since 87. So started at 12 or 13.

I have however played a lot since then :)
D&D, AD&D, Shadowrun, Rifts, Paranoia, Twillight 2000, MERP, In Nomine, Drager og Dæmoner, Vampire and Call of Cthulhu (probably forgetting a few) not to mention a handfull of MMORPGS and the fact that I play LARP as well :) Actually started my own club and headed it for 5 years untill it totalled 200+ members.

Oh and I play Magic and Warhammer as well.

I regard myself as an entertainment addict!
