Does anyone have, or know, any printing information about the Dragons of Autumn Twilight? I started going down the rabbit hole with this, and got stuck at my shoulders. I have several copies and they all say 1984. The first print was November of 1984. I have a copy without printing numbers, one that starts with 10, 9....3,2,1, and one that appears to be the 24th print and a couple more in between. None say anything beyond 1984. I dont imagine they did a printing every other day for two months including Christmas. (Watch someone tell me thats exactly what they did. :) )

I'm 2/3 of the way through the audio book now. Again. :) Great series.

I do not have a first printing as my numberline ends with 2.  I bought a three volume box set where the cardboard sleeve has alternate Elmore art and contains the three books.  Winter Night and Spring Dawning are first prints as the number line ends with 1.  Regarding the copyright date of 1984 I don't think that would change.  The printing info that would show future years would be two number lines.  One indicating the printing and the other indicating the year of the printing.  I don't recall any of the TSR novels of that paperback era to have the year.  In modern terms for a first print that came out today the year line might look something like "23 24 25 26 27 28.." or the order is reversed and the printing might look something like "10 9 8 ... 3 2 1" for a first print.  Depending on the publisher I've seen the order reversed.  From the UK, the books I have actually state something like First Printing or Twelfth Printing or something like that without a numberline.  Maybe that's changed as I haven't bought books from there recently.

I also have first printings of the RA Salvatore Drizzt novels that were initially paperback only like Dragons of Autumn Twilight (Chronicles, Legends, etc.)  I think the first TSR hardcover was the fourth Drizzt novel by Salvatore.

Nice that you have a first print of Autumn Twilight!  I've never seen one before and the 2nd print I have is the oldest one I've seen (In terms of printing sequence).

I read the series shortly after they came out in the fall of 1985 and the spring of '86.  I really enjoyed them.  Unfortunately, I lent the series to a friend who was a book destroyer.  I no longer own them, but Dragons of Autumn Twilight first edition can sell for $15 or more depending on condition.   8)

This whole series would have been a great start for a movie series. I enjoyed the latest movie, but I dont understand why why dont use their IP. Video games do it in less than 20 years.

I agree with you.  I did enjoy the latest movie too.  In terms of IP and such, I'm sure there's some convoluted explanation out there.  I think (my opinion only) that with the movie it was an attempt to create a "universal" appeal or something not explicitly linked to the past.  Having said that, I'm sure ten years from now critiques will be made about how the movie appealed and was written to the early 2020's D&D audience and endless commentary devoted to when the movie was released, how much was spent on advertising etc.

Getting back to your original post, the books missing numberlines most likely are things like book club editions or scholastic kids ones wherein a third party probably licensed (for lack of a better word) a book and printed it.  Those usually don't have numberlines to indicate a printing.  They also usually don't have a price point listed either by a bar code, or on the dust jacket if it's a hardcover.

Getting back to my first response, I have to correct my past self.  The first TSR hardcover was the Legacy which was the seventh Salvatore book, not the fourth.  My present self duly castigates my past self for not checking my bookshelf where said books reside and confirming that.

Mine is 1994 and the 33rd printing. The other 2 books in the series are 26th and 21st with that same year.

33rd printing?  How popular were these books?  I'm a DragonLance noob and didn't follow all the novels.

Everyone I know loved them. They were appropriately written for teen fantasy. It spawned an obscene amount of books that were prequels, post quels, pre pre quels, spin offs and more. They made modules out of the OG series as well. The authors went on to write a lot of other books. I put the ones in bold I believe were all related to the original series, characters and world.

Not to hijack the thread, but the Spiderwick Chronicles books came out in 2003 and were in the 3rd printing by the time Gen Con came about that year (where I got it signed  :D ). I also went into a rabbit hole with these but picking them up at Goodwill for $1 or less and they had at least 13 printings with the same problem as the year still stated 2003 until 2008 when they changed covers due to the movie.
