Good point, but I guess the question is what is meant by "plain sheet front"?

Could that refer simply to a lack of an illustration (castle), lack of scrollwork, or lack of cover (folder)?

Maybe I'm reading more into it than I should, but "plain sheet front" reads differently to me than would "plain front sheet".

Do we have any more info from Pete on that point?

"Plain sheet front" is still confusing and we cannot take Pete's comment re. the addition of the scrollwork sheet to the bundle as gospel, for that shop opening date (owing to other confusions).
viz. for the first quote above, the quote continues "That sheet got added with my store opening, which was Jan of 75" which clearly did not make sense.

The proposal of two earlier versions; one (possibly) with a white scrollwork cover and one with no "cover" (and somehow "different" text setting?) is merely the best way I can see of covering the underlying observations/comments to get any release to predate June 1976.

There's certainly no evidence of a yellow scrollwork cover prior to June 1976 either from Pete's comments or the physical evidence unless you count the yellow-orange scrollwork cover which is only present in the black folder, afaik (and doesn't have the copyright/distribution details on the back).

The black folder PoVQ that I just sold to a member here came from Rick Bauer in a poly-bag.  It appears to be an old bag, and the folder fits nicely in it.  I was wondering, does anyone have a foldered PoVQ that came with a bag, or does anyone know whether that printing was ever bagged?  It would be nice to know if it's the original baggy.

Yes, it was. Two posts on first page of this thread.

That one was originally purchased via mail order, so it's difficult to tell the source.
(Oversized, heavy duty) bag is priced twice (partial label and biro) and the latter isn't indented into the folder, so it could hypothetically have been priced/bagged by WW then labelled at TSR. Insufficient evidence to prove that, though.

The Rick Bauer copy came from an auction source (and still guessing it was that $500 GenCon one) and given that the folder has had quite a bit of wear, that bag may have been added later, rather than having been carefully put aside.
Again, more guesswork than anything sure.

02c, only, of course ^^

Out of curiosity, how many here have a foldered copy with a white intro page, rather than a yellow one?

I do.

(BTW I owe you an email and some .jpg's. Tax time and some vicious building code inspectors have been sapping my extra time.)

Sweet... I guess this thread had to start up again some time (a month short of two years). ;)

Pity help anyone who's starting cold on this, but rather glad to have tried to pull together that "summary" on the previous page from combined evidence, attempts to incorporate Pete's statements where those were feasible and hook in the dates and pre-Black folder conjecture on that basis.
Had a read back through that just now and still appears to be a valid null hypothesis as far as it goes.

Tome of Treasures :: View topic - Palace of the Vampire Queen (1976) is well worth a browse, too, following on from that; with thanks to Kynan.

Cheers,
David.

Great, thanks for the link, David, and nice to see you.   :D

I hadn't noticed that one at ToT for some reason...

Pretty thorough piece of work.  This is what I was getting at, by the way, whether the white sheet as opposed to yellow in the folder printing would be indicative of 1st - 1st vs. 1st - 2nd.

If I recall, the yellow scrollwork sheet is not "opposed to" but rather "in addition to", per Kynan's "except that it also comes with a yellow cover page" and my "May or may not have a separate scrollwork title sheet (yellow-orange, not bright yellow?)"/"Lack of scrollwork title sheet in some copies..." run-through some of the possible options/explanations on the previous page.

If no-one else gets there first to check...
(Or, as Al would've said "darn, do I have to go and open it up again....?" &£%%@* :)).

Jeff, is that the copy I sold you?  If so, what's the page count?  Don't bother taking it out of the baggy, but I was just curious in case you remembered or had it written down.

I have a black folder version that my wife bought at Pete's store in San Luis Obispo in the 70's.  It has a yellow page with a short "background" section (1/3 page) and a white page with a longer "background" section (full page).

My copy has only one yellow page, the scroll work art/background page.  Mine also has a glued in white title/credits/printing page.
