Gen Con is now only a little more than a week away.  I just wanted to send a reminder that the Auction is no longer across from the Exhibit hall.  It has been moved to the Marriott hotel Ballroom on the 2nd floor across the street from the Convention Center.  Surely it will not be as convenient as the old location was centrally located, but the store situation should be much more spacious and allow for easier browsing and viewing of the merch.  I hope to see all of you there!!

In the 1980s I built the GenCon auction into a huge affair.
In the 90s we downsized because we were moved to a distant location.
In the 00s we suffered in a nearby hotel.

Dealers were unhappy with us. They claimed we siphoned off funds that they'd rather get with new stuff.
We proved that our auction put money INTO circulation, a benefit not a drain. Folks sold their used games and spent it immediately.

So they moved us back into the main building at Indy. And very close to the dealer area.
Cue a 15-year boom.

After GenCon50 things got dicey. Top items stopped coming, top bidders only bought a little.
And now the auction is back to the suburbs, a hotel again. And not even ground floor. Think there'll be any outdoor signage to help?

So much for walk-ins. Dedicated customers only.
Good luck. I expect the volume to drop by 1/3 or more. :(

Devon and I will be there. Haven’t attended the collectors auction in a few years as nothing in the case caught my eye. Hopefully some good items will appear this year.

It would be great to know if there was a video recording of the auction. One was posted a few years back that showcased some cool stuff.

I know we have some video we someplace. We filmed the auction for a few years in the 2000' and burnt the footage to disk(dvd or cd-rom) can't remember.

There are you tube videos of the collectors auction going back the last six or 7 years.  You can find them by searching for Gencon auction on youtube.  I see myself in those videos and think about how fast time flies by.

By the way, if anyone is on the fence about going to the auction.  They are over 4500 live auction items registered, and over 10,500 consignment store items.  I cannot guess at the quality or rarity of the selection, but there will certainly be a lot of stuff to choose from.  The lines for the store also should be shorter as the space is more than double the size.

One Magic card, three pokemon cards and a bunch of DnD stuff. Same proportion for my collection, I love it. Someone slabbed some R series. I will be interesting to see their grades and what they sell for. I wish I could attend, but will be excited to see how it goes.

Thanks for posting!  Not too bad of a selection thus far.

Wish I was able to be there this year.

The only licensed miniatures of the famed 7 dwarves. Very rare. Sweeeeet.

One of the years I attended at least (2007 or 2008), you guys sent me a copy. Don't know where it is now, but I have it somewhere.

Might be able to help out Mike a bit here.  These aren't all my pics.  Some are from Acaeum members and friends.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

These are mostly from the auctions, but I've added a few others that might be of interest.

I believe the video is from 2008.  The pictures are from 2007, 2008, and 2010.

The collectible auctions used to be fantastic.  Picked up a lot of my rare items at the auctions.

Good times!

The auction’s move doesn’t seem to have made any difference.

I can assure you that they found us.

Hi Jim!  If you can find a moment, how have the auctions been?

As of right now over 85% of the store’s 10,000 + contents have been sold.

Things have gone better than anyone could have possibly imagined.

The collectible auction was probably the best in the last 2-3 years. We had an embarrassment of riches with exceptional items. The top ten became a top fourteen.

We realized $7500 for the TSR 1982 annual report. The two final bidders were new collectors. Tons of “new” money in the room and it showed.

I know it was filmed. Will post a link when I see it.
