FYI, the auction for an R1 Pre-Pub:

** eBay auction listing blocked.  Please enable cookies in your browser for this site and for eBay! **

... does not match my saved scans of an original.  The auction appears to be a photocopy (which the original, back in 1981, was a photocopy), but the signature & serial number should be in blue ink.  The envelope should also feature a sticker with the dot-matrix printed module information; this auction's envelope is unclear if that's a sticker we're looking at, or some sort of reproduction.

ExTSR's comments / verification welcome!  The seller states he was a friend of Frank's back in the day and was gifted this by him.

Seller is Rick Reid, of FluffyQuest fame. Rick Reid | RPG Designer | RPGGeek

Copy for sale looks legit to me. Am awaiting further chat with Rick.

Yep, it's Rick and the item is definitely legit. Go nuts. :)

I have #6 and #8 but someone else has a lower number than the one in this auction (#3).

Nothing against exTSR however the differences outlined by Scott are evident if you compare the pics in that auction with those in the following one:

Signature is as a matter of fact blue and the numbering info on the envelope is on a label. However, if Frank says it is ok, i am confident that he is not wrong: at those time after all everything was made manually and differences could arise from item to item.

Is it possible that he's just use a black and white camera? The edges of the envelope shot look surreal.

Or maybe it was somehow photocopied to get the pictures - hard to believe in this day-and-age.

Still, no doubt what will arrive is real, just maybe a poor representation on the ebay post?

Looks like Rick posted some addition pics.  They are (mostly) still B&W, but they do provide more details.

The new pics are much better, and clearly show the signature and serial number in blue ink.  Now it looks legit.

8th photo in the listing shows a blue ink signature.
