Hello folks:

I love that after all these years new printings can still be found. Here is the latest discovery I came across in my research:
B8 – Journey to the Rock
Printing differences:

UPC and ISBN numbers are printed above the barcode rectangle.
No price

No ISBN number. UPC number is inside the barcode rectangle.
The price appears on the lower right of the back cover.

I am not sure which is first. I am thinking the no price version as it appears to be more common based on checking the copies currently on eBay. Any additional insight from the Acaeum members to confirm one way or the other?

Cheers,
Curt

Need to look at sources/catalogs for 1986. RS1, DA1, X11, IM1, M3 have the price, M2 and A1-4 from 1986 do not. Have not checked everything, but that's a start.

That is an odd module you found there Curt.  Only a couple of the basic B modules have prices on them (B1-9 $15.00, B11 $5.95, B12 $5.95 and BSOLO $6.00). Only the 2nd print BSOLO has the price printed in black above the UPC. All of the others have the price printed in the same color as the text on the back (white), not black. A quick search on eBay, not a single 'real' (real meaning not a reprint) B8 had a price on it so it's definitely rare. The $6.00 price did come after the original $5.95 ones so I would surmise it being a long lost 2nd print.

By 1986,  looking at what you posted above Shane, generally the prices had moved into to $8-$10 range. B8 was release in 1984.

1986 modules transitioned to adding the price to the module, except for those I listed and B10, CM7, I8, N3. BSOLO 2nd looks to be when a transitioning was happening as the UPC looks a lot like the 2nd print of B8, but with price within the white box of the UPC.

Edit: AC6 4th print & AC9 non modules that contain the price. I don't have any of the catalogs but most would be mock ups or not even show the back of the item. Does not seem to be many 2nd+ printings have this, so did they stop reprints of a lot of the older modules/items due to 2nd edition coming out 3 years later?

Nice find, Curt! Very cool!

In the first photo, the identifier, "ISBN," is actually under the module's ten-digit ISBN, 0-88038-158-2, and next to the number, 394-54542-7TSR0600.

I believe the second number is the "product number". Does the "600" at the end refer to MSRP and encode the price seen in the second photo or is that just a coincidence?

Edit:
Looks like Guy Fullerton and Mars noticed the pricing correlation in the product number a few years ago:  Orange Spine DMG stock number sticker

The priced one was first.

B11 and B12 were $5.95 along with CM9 from those I could find after 1984.

I had my copy handy so I just checked and it is the no-price version (the first picture above).

I remember noticing that back in the '80s and using it to figure out what the price would be on items without a price tag.
