Why does this illustration resemble an Erol Otus painting?

Was Otus influenced by this style? Or were both Otus & the artist of the calendar influenced by the same thing?

I think there's an Otus interview where he mentions his influences. I don't remember what they were though.

I do remember that he didn't mention Hannes Bok, which surprised me.
