Erk.. Have I lost the plot here or is this already seriously over the norm for these items?

on: Page Not Found
a mint 2nd edition chainmail is ~$400, a mint 5th white box ~$185.
And presumably the "foxing" knocks it down at least one category?
(Am I right that foxing is sulphur oxidation rather than a mold that
eats the cellolose)?

anyway $700 seems excessive to me..  but will it go higher still!

I agree that it is high, although the site is only a guide. Funniest part is, giorgiobarilli placed "ANOTHER" topping bid after David pushed it up. 8O I guess he is not happy with 2, he needs 3.

Greetings! :)
No, I don't think you've lost the plot... :D
(Add another $80 or so for the Book of Monsters and 1st print Arduin. Am guessing that little square of typed paper may be the previous owners "notes", but the seller never responded on that).

Copies of Chainmail don't come up at all often, and there has been quite a bit of $ washing about recently...

For foxing, check; Conservation OnLine
It depends on the paper (most cheap modern papers are pretty lousy quality), but is often indicative of storage in warm, humid conditions.
(The pages of my 1st Chainmail are minty fresh, although being used/stored in MN probably helped a bit ;)).

The tippex(?) repair on the white box is also somewhat "unfortunate", too.

Ah, so they did... Thanks for the "heads up".

Next in sequence was $750.

This stuff about putting in extra, higher bids to "protect" your interests (as encouraged by eBay) is kinda silly. If the seller has two or three high bids showing, there's zero chance the underbidder will be "trapped" into buying unless they decide the price is right.

Uhm, without the price on the covers of the booklets, and without "4th printing" on the inside of the covers, wouldn't this qualify as a 5th printing?

Very surprised at the price.  I guess it's the Chainmail pushing it up, but even so... 8O

Good evening to you, Stephen.
Yeah, it's a 5th as I pointed out in my question which they finally responded to!
(Unless it's an ultra-rare 4th-/5th hybrid with a later title page from M&M. *jk* :P)

*nods*. Is the Chainmail... unless I've missed something, myself!

Oh no David, I was not referring to you, I was refering to the high bidders high bids.
==============================================
Stop!  Geez, that seller better send you a Christmas Card or something, considering you personally have made him an extra $250.00 alone. 8O

Ah; OK.... Yeah, surprised there haven't been so many complaints on eBay about how the multiple high-bids tactic- which used to be useful for setting up a "smoke screen"- is now less-than-worthless with the revealed bids system.

Am dropping out myself, anyhow.
Was one thing having a probe to see how strong the high bids were and determine whether there was a pattern; positioning the auction for the snipes (a reversal of the usual between myself and aneoth, phps)... but if the same bidder's going to keep coming back again-and-agin I might start to feel guilty!

And just remembered where I'd seen the high bidder's name before... It was Chainmail last time, too...

(btw, ~$150 not ~$250, please... ;)
Although the larger favor was that question, since the seller can now point to the "hidden" text and disclaim that it was sold as a first print, since those bids came in after the response).

*leaves <juliabulia> to sock it out with giorgio...*
