Well it looks like Marlinth took a shot at him too, but it still feels kind of weird bidding against one of the creators of the game. Almost like its disrespectful or something. :? I mean, Christ he probably helped to create the feckin thing and here I am, some schmuck who just buys all this stuff, trying to outbid him. Maybe I am being to nice and I need to get meaner, kind of like he was a shiller or something.

Yeah, that's the spirit.   Think of him as a shiller...especially if the item is something he wrote in the first place  :!:  Or blackmail him.  Say if he'll make another couple of copies of the pre-pubs (and sign and number em), you'll back off.

Not disrespectful at all. The few years I went to Origins he and I ended up in bidding wars on a few items. Everything from a first print Monster Manual that had notes in it from one of the play testers (can't for the life of me remember their name right now) concerning changes that needed made, to an unpunched War of the Rings game. Just to set the matter straight he won in all of these  Not a shill, just hoping that was his limit. I guess it wasn't .  :x

I did ask THE question.  The buyer said yes, £25.  But then they withdrew the offer before I could accept :? .  Interest from other Acaeum members I suspect  :( .  But it's an improvement on the flat refusal I usually receive I suppose  :D .

And can the eventual winner please update the following poll

Early print DMG, though the condition isn't the best.  Description states it was purchased at GenCon.  Maybe a true 1st?

A'yep! That sure is. It is the second one I have seen where there is a confirmed  purchase of the DMG from GenCon XII. I think that such examples pretty much cinch-up the chronology on the 1st print of the DMG. Another I have seen is autographed by Gygax and dated by him as August 1979.

I am suprised that the myth of the MM-bound-in DMG as the true 1st print has  been perpetuated - by TSR people (Kim Mohan and Harold Johnson) no less! However, both of them started their employment in July of that year, just when the 1st print was coming off the press.

But then again, I doubt anyone would remember a printing that went without any glitches vs. one that was ridlled with them.

Futures Bright,

Paul

Dear ilflet,

Re: FirstQuest cassette (4710030566).=== Yup, that's a rare enough item. Will be looking to put in a bid of £20-25. Hopefully no-one will ask if you're willing to put a "Buy It Now" price against the auction less than that :) Best wishes, David. <harami2000>

Thanks.

But I wasn't really interested in the item. It's just getting someone to offer me that elusive BIN.

If I get my timing right, the acceptance will be from someone advertising "STI Up the Graden (sic) Path"

I suspect that this might well push £40+ given its new found publicity.  The auction counter more than doubled within a few hours of the posting here.

I hate it when my cat walks across the keyboard just as I'm pressing the "submit listing to eBay" button ... :)
