4th print box set with some early supplements.  Books look nice, but the box has tape, and, well, looks kind of weird unless it's just a B/W scan.

And by the way, what's that "index"?

It helps if he wins the auction and then has the Index.  8)

I too think it is worth a bid to find out!

Index is home-made and of curiosity value only. The cover, however, is of interest, and confirms what might be expected given that printing.

ADVANCED D&D Dungeon Masters Guide 1979 TSR GAMES Book

D&D Dungeon Masters Guide | eBay

4 days left with an opening bid of $2.00.  Looks like an early printing but the pics are small.  Possible "D" in "Advanced" running of the edge of the banner and yellow/orange endpapers.

Nope.  While the "D" runs off the banner on several printings to a minor degree, the occurance specified in the 1st printing is much more severe than that.  Also this copy is listed as having 240 pages, the earlier printings have only 232.  Unless you're a printing completist like me, it's probably not that interesting. ;)

Here is a question for ya. Why are there less pages in the earlier printings as opposed to the later printings? I have a 1st print DMG and at least at this point have not done a page by page comparison, but is it the font size of the print that causes the extra pages or is it a matter of added content to the later printings? :? Anyone?

While there are certainly some revisions throughout the 240 page book, the major formatting changes don't seem to get going until page 222 -- it's mostly 2 additional appendices (O & P) an advertisement on page 236, and a section on generating NPCS from 237-240.  The font size is the same.

Alright, I'll come clean. ;)  Here's his verbatim response.

Chainmail=3rd printing-june76,,,Supp 1=3rd printing-jan76,,supp2=copyright1975,,supp3=copyright1976,,supp4=copyright1976,,,volume3=4thprinting 1975,,,volume2=copyright74/4thprinting nov1975,,volume1 copyright1974/printing1975november//swords &spells book copyright76-2nd-printing1977..The Box was Scanned in B&W ,BUT! Is actually Brown Ink,and "Dungeons & Dragons" in Red ink ,Words "3volume set" in Red ink too,Plus On side of Lid are Dungeons&Dragons in Red ink,Gygax&Arneson in RED ink,etc ..I cant swear to it,But looks like Original kinda box to me,,Also NOTE the Owners Name neatly Printed on Inside Cover of each book,And Name Label Inside Box too...The Index and Corrections are both Identical Size,No Copyright on Index ,yet it looks like it could be original cuz these Books are very well cared for,BUT! Im a bookseller n no nothing about D&D...Index is about 17pages ,and 5.5in x8.5in size...Basically it looks like a complete set Plus TWO extra Booklets

<clip good stuff>

Slightly less cryptic than my response. ;)

There were at least three good reasons why I used to hunt down 4th(-) prints: this is one of them...

Pity 'bout the names in the books and taped box.
