Finally got around to looking at my copy that I bought from Prometheus Books.

A fascinating review of how RPG developed.
The short essays by the pioneers (e.g. Arneson) were most interesting.
An excellent review of contents (i.e., the precis of each book/module).
A snapshot of what was created - I had no idea there were so many RPG's
The timeline of major developments really puts things in a nice context.
Limited print history.  This is the only failing, but then that's what Acaeum is for!

All in all, I'm very pleased I got this book.  Thanks for the recommendation

Not the only failing: there are a quite a few errors which were perpetuated by online references at a later date.
For what it is, still an excellent volume. Good pick-up. :)

(Yes, the essays are interesting!).

Hi,

i think the time has come for me to buy this book.

I have an important question to ask those who already own a copy:

are rpg's in "Heroic worlds" listed alphabetically, or are they split into categories, that is: fantasy rpg's, science fiction rpg's, horror rpg's , and so forth?

thanks

:D

Categories, but there is a decent index.

Hey everyone,

Wow, thank you for bringing this subject back to the top of the boards!

I had never heard of the book before, and look forward to getting one for myself. :)

Best regards,
Ronald

I have had mine for a long time. I bought it new and it is now one of the most well-leafed, worn out books on my shelf!!!
