SIUC is in Carbondale, IL pretty good drive from chicago.

Yeah, Illinois is a pretty big state and I guessed the drive would be a fair hike. But three weeks with the girlfriend's family... a day out to Carbondale could be looking pretty good, halfway through the second week.

Actually, I'm flying to SF in the middle of the trip for three days to visit a friend who lives in San Jose. He's lined up tickets to the Raiders game against Tennessee, followed by two days skiing in Lake Tahoe.

I'll try and make it to Carbondale... I'll take my copy of Dragon #9 and see if I can get an autograph.

Regards

Mike

Quick side note, in the documentary Uber Goober, Egg tells a funny story of when he first met Trampier and the boys from the Alabama State Wargaming Society back at one of the first Cons. Gary states they had never seen snow like that day in Lake Geneva and they proceeded to frolic around in it for hours. He told them they were going to get sick and they all came down with a fever……Egg tells they story much better.  :D

Mike, when are you coming out?  We should have an Acaeum gathering at Jon's house :D

On the relative-worth of comic strips front, I guess I'm about the only gamer on the planet who has never found KODT funny ;)

So, anyone else have any details about other Finieous Fingers appearances, items, etc.?

Hi Allan -

I fly into SF Saturday evening on the 18th. I think the plan is to go out to the Raiders game on Sunday afternoon, and head up to Tahoe that night. Ski Monday and Tue morning, then I fly back to Chicago Tue evening.

The friend I'm visiting - I've known him since we were kids, and he was a die-hard D&D player. He's been living over here in the States for probably 10-12 years now.

I would like to meet up with you and Jon, but I'm thinking the trip is pretty crammed to try and fit it in. It would be nice to meet a couple of acaeum members, put faces to names and check out all the rares in your collections though.

Regards

Mike

I forgot to add - I arrived in Chicago last night after a 28 hour trip. Left Ballarat at 7.30am on Wednesday morning on the airport shuttle to Melbourne; flew to Sydney and had a two hour stopover; then 13 hours to LA. Another three hours there followed by a four hour flight to Illinois. I shouldn't complain as all the flights were on time, there was little turbulance and no crying babies.

They did manage to lose my bag though - I had it in LA to go through customs and I gave it back to United to catch the Chicago flight, but it disappeared and never came out on the carousel. I filled out a form at the airport (this was 7.30pm last night) and was too tired to be too worried about it. A guy knocked on the door at 9am this morning and handed it over, so I was happy.

I saw Invincibles photos of Lake Geneva on another thread... got me thinking about a trip up there sometime next week.

Sounds like you'll be a busy man---I'll be heading out to Wichita, KS, on the 21st, so perhaps when you come through next time we'll all be able to get together :D

I just confirmed with another friends who's a Finieous phreak that the set does in fact include a dragon:

Thanks Sean.  I actually have the non-gold set already,
though I paid more than that for them :-(

Does your set of the non-gold minis have a dragon in it?
The set I bought did, but I'm not sure if it's original to
the set or not....

I don't have the non-gold set, so I couldn't say. Looked like exactly the same eight figs though, which include a dragon. My gold set has Murgatroid in any case. It's also '#3', which is pretty cool - that's a low number!

Anyone else able to chime in with the number pieces in the miniature sets?
This one:

had eight as well, but I don't see a dragon in it like the one that was in my set.....

The dragon's the fourth figure from the right (it's a small dragon). With a closer examination you can see it's tail.

Aha, thanks Desuma_Malevois---I guess the extra dragon in my set was just that then, since I do recall that one being there too (I'll double-check when I get home).

Sure, the Fineous Treasury was mentioned in this thread very early on. It's a compilation of all the Dragon strips plus a new story about Fineous' quest for the Wand of Orcus. It's a lot of fun if you happen to like FF et. al. (I do).  It's also mentioned on Acaeum's site in the Dragon Magazine Index down at the bottom of the page.

Some useful additional links and info:

- FF minis pics from Manzakk Publishing (these are the "Finieous Phigures" box sets, I assume) in 1982:  Finieous Fingers - Manzakk Publishing - Lost Minis Wiki
- FF minis pics from Thunderbolt Mountin in 2004:  Talk:Finieous Fingers (Thunderbolt Mountain) - Lost Minis Wiki (apparently these are the ones that were gold-plated; wonder if the earlier set was also??)
- some useful background about JD and the minis @ [TMP] "Finieous Fingers" Topic and [TMP] "Finieous Fingers Figure Set" Topic

There are nine figures in the set I believe.  The names of the characters are: Fineous, Fred, Charly, Mergatroid, Ranger Rupert, Boredflak, Grond, Mergatroid, and the evil wizard Kask.  I have a few Fineous minis for sale plus a few of the other characters, but not Grond (anti-paladin), Mergatroid(dragon) or Kask.  Charly carries an axe and wears a horned helmet.  Fred carries a mace and wears a visored helmet. Boredflak packs a submachine gun with a bazooka over his shoulder.  Fineous wears the watchcap.   8)
