403 and 503 error messages

Some of you may have been getting various error messages when attempting to view the forum. These usually take the form of "403 FORBIDDEN!" in big red letters (with accompanying information about the violation), or "503 Service Unavailable" on a blank white screen.

Both are results of my overzealous antihack/antispam software. I apologize in advance. (The good news is that it has pretty much halted hacking / spamming / asshattery). If you do get this message, do not despair. E-mail me at [email protected] and include the message you got, and your IP address, and I'll unblock you.

A very common observation. They aren't stuck; they just haven't been clicked on by the recipient. Almost assuredly they have been read, though, since the text of PM's is in the notification email that is sent.

You don't have permission to access /wiki/Main_Page on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I get the 403 message when I try to login from my 2010 blackberry phone. It's probably my fault for still using a 2010 blackberry so I can just roll with it :pale:

I have been seeing some sluggishness when loading the site for the past few days, but this morning I received the following:

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Connection refused [2002]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

I was able to reconnect after a minute or so, but I thought you would like to know.

Yep, that was me playing around. Fixed now.

I've noticed the site is periodically sluggish, too. I think there's a wonky router somewhere upstream of the site; occasionally it's blazing fast, and then other times drops back to glacial.

I've ruled out most things that may be slowing things down on the server, but I'll keep checking.
