This is the most recent limited edition D&D chess set produced.  They are not that uncommon.  I believe there are four for sale on eBay currently.  This one is the most realistic, as far as pricing is concerned.

One recently sold in March for a good price (listed as NIB):

Who cares?!! It's a big ol' pile of dice. You can roll around on it & feel it crunch beneath your weight.

I feel at this point that you could mould a turd into a 20 sided polyhedron and scratch numbers on it. And it'd sell for $200 minimum.

Very nice... Seller states its a 2nd printing but its a 3rd I believe.  Will be interesting where this one ends up.  Looks like a full pad which is rare.

Very Rare Mail-order Dice - Dungeons & Dragons Basic Box Set #1001  | eBay

Is there anything here in the listing to validate that the dice were indeed received from TSR after sending in the coupon as implied here? Id love to hear comments from those who actually sent in for dice and what do you remember from the exchange? Should there be an associated note with the dice along the lines of “Here are the dice you mailed the coupon in for”….

Not sure you could ever prove that otherwise, Supernaut.  Unless only specific white dice were ever mailed to people making the request. As a side note, that is a really nice box set.

I dont want to be nasty, but i have a doubt that could really be the original "replacement dice" for one reason only: who on earth prepare a package of white dice and white crayon? That can't be possbile...

Due diligence always pays off.   :D

I was merely inferring from sellers own words.  "No Pages appear to be missing."

Thanks stratochamp.

I've haven't seen those dice in pure white before. Maybe it's just an artifact of poor color balance in the image tho.

Same here, and I was the highest bidder. I also reached out to the seller to confirm, and he told me there were 5 pages missing. He said he was going to cancel the auction, but decided to wait until the end to notify the winner (not ethical in my opinion). Anyways, I was able to retract my bid.  Good work stratochamp.

You are both welcome. I too felt the seller was not acting appropriately once they knew that sheets were missing.

At least the seller conceded on that point: "The crayon is from a different box set, just a bonus." Otherwise, the set would have best suited a humanoid race with infravision such as Dwarves or Elves. The seller is not located in any known Dwarven or Elven homeland, but in Michigan, which only raises more questions.

He did end the auction and has since relisted it accurately. Perhaps my retracted bid helped push him in that direction.

Thanks Grug.  Question for the general population.  Is there a discrepancy in rarity between top and side tearing or are they about the same?
