Hey everyone - I mentioned in another post that I had received some correspondence from the_game_emporium . I think I worded it poorly, because I followed it up with "I also received a message last night from our favorite reseller".

I didn't mean I received a message from TGE - those emails were from long ago. Our favorite reseller - well that is someone more current (Grodog seems to know - it's a title from some old Acaeum posts).

Anyway, I guess people just like to send me anonying messages. . . :?

Back in May when TGE was receiving a lot of Acaeum criticism, I received this email. I will post my responses and his as well. It may be kinda boring or maybe some will think it is funny (I got quite a laugh).

Also, you will note that I am excedingly nice in my responses. . . what can I say? I'm just a swell dude. I figured it best to be peaceful, and, quite honestly, I never had a transaction with him, so I stopped posting any comments about his "activity". I figured time would take care of the situation.

Sorry if the read is boring. . . just skip it if you start to yawn. (My replies lack any excitement, but his emails ramble in an amusing sorta way).

(I'll post them separately to avoid confusion)

:D

My hurried response: (Yes it was I who encouraged him to register and post here).

Hey James,
Hi this is Paul. I have to go to work very soon (I
can send you a longer email later on). Basically,
what you have to understand is that the forum is a
group of people who collect AD&D and (to be honest)
there is a lot of criticizing/complaining.
I have never been in a transaction with you
and from everything I have read with the others many
people had very unpleasant experiences. It is natural
that they should voice them. The Eastern Treasure
Chest? That is a former user who sold RPG items with
the same format as you, same location, same manner of
replying to comments, etc. The similarities are many,
but again, I have no proof you are the same as I have
never had any dealings with either of you.

I really, have to leave for work so I will send you
another email tonight on my break (or later if I can).

James, feel free to register on the forum and make
comments. If you want to "defend" yourself, that is
the best way. Sometimes the forum is just a
"complaining" session, and everyone is really pretty
cool and would love to hear your viewpoint.

Also, feel free to email me back - I will contact you again.
I know you might be angry, but try to understand that
people are sometimes apt to complain. Try to
understand why some of them have said what they have
(it is not because they thought you were the Eastern
Treasure Chest). As for any comments I have made. . .
I will send you my reasons/impressions in my next
email.

Again, I certainly understand your anger,

Talk to you soon,

Paul

My follow-up message:

Hi James,
Okay, I am on my lunch break now at 4:30 am (whew! I
am always tired now - I work nights and we just had
our first child who is now only 3 weeks old!)

Anyway, for what my opinion is worth: The Eastern
Treasure Chest was a former RPG reseller - I am not
familiar with them or their sales, however, as I
mentioned there are several similarities that raised
the question if you are the same individual. Whether
that is true or not, I don't believe it has anything
to do with many of the comments you are referring.
Most of these comments stem from poor eBay experiences
the individuals had with the_game_emporium - as far as
I can tell, these "bad" experiences are mostly to do
with slow shipping. (sometimes very slow)

The forum is open and the people who use it are quick
and free with their opinions. I have looked back at
my own comments regarding you and though they might
not be that pleasant, they are either true or just my
opinions (I did make a recent comment that was
unfounded and have changed my post accordingly).

As to why? Listen, James, you are a high volume
reseller and have become a major player on the eBay
market. Because of this you have attracted the
attention of RPG collectors. You have your own
advertising methods and ways of doing business, but
like any business, others may call things you do into
question. I may have poked fun at your use of RARE,
VERY RARE, etc. I find it misleading and inaccurate
in most cases - it may increase your sales, but others
are free to observe and comment if they don't like it.
Any observations I have made about you and the
eastern treasure chest having similarities are true
(the similarities are true, that doesn't mean you
actually are the same). I have never stated that you
are both the same. Nothing is behind your back, for
all anyone knew, you were reading forum posts this
whole time.

Others may have said harsher things or made comments
on your character - obviously I can not speak for
anyone else. I have expressed some opinions on your
integrity based on things I have seen. . . I won't go
into it now, but if you really want to know, just send
me another email and ask.

For what it's worth, I don't think users leaving
negative feedback when something goes wrong has
anything to do with the acaeum forum (the vast
majority have never heard of it). You sell a lot of
items - many seem to be understanding of your
situation, but some will not care and will leave
negative feedback when they don't get what they want
quickly - that's how ebay goes.

I know you are angry right now James, but feel free to
email me back and/or to make posts on the acaeum
forums. Believe it or not, I am actually a very nice
guy and from everything I have seen with comments
other have left - so are you. It is best to diffuse
situations like this, so if you feel slighted, then
let others at the forum know about it.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Paul

His final reply (he then proceded to register here and post all those "explanations". Like I said, kinda boring, but kinda funny too.

Old news, but it may be worth a chuckle. . .

Paul, well First let me give you congrads on your first child! It will
be the best thing that's ever happen to you, at least it was for me! Me
and Sarah have two. An 8 year old girl, and an 18th month old little
boy. So welcome to fatherhood..its been pure joy for me. Takes some
adjusting doesn't?
Now let me applogize...for sounding like an ASS! I
am big enough to admit it! I pretty much got FLOORED when I saw the
comments! I'll be the FIRST to admit that when I got on, I honestly
thought I could run 100 to 200 auctions a week, and handle everything myself.
Well as my friend and former helper from my old brick and mortar hobby
shop told me...I was going to be shocked by the amount of business I
would be generating right from the get go. I honestly thought it would
take a little time, to establish myself before I started to get many
bids.
Well Jason was FOR SURE correct. With taking care of my mother who
also lives with us and is suffering from altimerzers and the kids and
what seemed like Every Waking moment on Ebay...I quikly realized that If
I was going to continue to do as much, I would need some help! So I got
Jason and Eric and couple Good Friends who use to work for me at the
shop to help me, with things. Sarah has tried to do some emailing, but
when it comes to knowing what's what...its on the guys...if you know what
I mean? And we were doing really well, at least I thought so. Then we
got attacked with that sasser computer virus..and didn't even know we
had it. At first I thought it was adelphia's problem..because our email
box started more less going crazy. Bouncing emails..when the box was not
even half full ect saying I was over quato or something like that. Then
the worst part was me or Jason would go in answer an email or respond
to a Paypal payment, and let them know we'd email them a confirmation
number the next day..then log into the computer the next day and the
email would be completly erased along with several others and the rest all
shuffled around and not in the order that they were suppose to be!
I
never thought we had a virus, because nortan never once alerted me to
anything? Then I could see it start spreading to the rest of the system
slowly but surely. Shuffling my files ect, getting browser error after
error. So I finally got a computer programer to come to the house and
have a look at our system. That's when he found the virus. I thought he
called it syrus, but later was told it was sasser I think I'm saying
that right? Well you can only Imagine the Grief I had when that happened!
Our system had to be completely swept clean, along with our email
program and all. So we did manage to get rid of the bug..but unfortunaetly
all the emails that were in our box at the time, went with it as well!
So we had to start the slow process of going through Paypal, trying to
contact everyone who we thought had not gotten there shipment. That was
SUPER Slow...going to say the least. Having to Log back in every time
you turned around. But I will say when Ebay updated the MyEbay Program
where we can now search back through our sold items, that has REALLY
helped...and has speeded things up quite a bit.

I was wondering why in the VERY begining I had at least two people ask
me If I was the eastern treasure chest? Jason is the one who REALLY
knows Ebay...he's been on me of two years to get on. Now I'm totally
pleased to see the Hobby alive and well and thriving.
In my auctions...I
know that there maybe 5 of the same module selling at the same time, so
I just try and do what I can to get attention....its PURELY selling.
That's all. It sounds like who ever that guy was, did some people wrong
or something? Do they own a Shop or?
I use a program that gives me
most of the fonts I use in my auctions, and Jason set that up. Should I
not reply to feedback left for me? Is that not the right thing to do?

Lord...I FOR SURE dont want to be put in some CROOK
category...because that's for SURE not me at all! I've sent MANY Free items...MANY
Sealed as well to appologize about the problem. I guess your right...I cant
undo the past. When I saw the posts, I thought oh my goodness...now I
know why people are freaking on me!
To be HONEST it Hurt more than
anything else, and I reacted with Anger...and I'm TRULY sorry. PLEASE
dont think I had singled you out or anyting like that. I just know you
from Ebay, and have almost bid on some of your items..but they got abit
too high for me to turn a profit. Dont get me wrong...I still Collect.
But we ALL like money, there's FOR SURE enough for everyone.
I
wanted to be apart of the Good Company of Gaming Sellers...and not feel like
an outcast, because of a problem I had in my first 3 months on Ebay.
And I hate to think...I'm suffering the wrath and bottled up anger some
people have for some other seller? Are they still around? I would like
to email them, and get this straitned out!
I'll be the FIRST to
admit, I'm GUILTY as charged with biting off a bit more than I could chew
own my own...but I quikly solved that. But was in NO way in control of
who ever sent that virus to me? Well all I know to do is try like
Hell...to work through it. I have NO plans to change my User ID. I have
several Mutual Feedbacks to remove in my Ebay Box...but for some reason Ebay
will ONLY let you do 5 request in a 30 day period. Still cant
understand that one? But MANY of my Bad comments will Hopefully be removed...but
I've stressed myself nearly to death about it, so I'm just going to do
our best to get everything taken care of as FAST as possible. So we can
get back like it was, before this Nightmare of a month hit us!
And
I TRULY dont mean to offend anyone with the way I list. I'm just trying
to drum up interest that's all. Its like I told one person, if not for
Ebay and the online Community a dang B2 would be Rare! LOL : ) If you
know what I mean? before I found Ebay...it was VERY hard to come across
1st Edition Collections. Dont know where your from but on the East
Coast we dont have all those cool old book shops and stuff around, so
vintage D&D was nearly impossible to find!
Well, Scott wont even respond
to my emails...which REALLY hurt my feelings. So I really dont want to
post on his sight. I emailed him in the begining about advertising his
site in all my auctions, if he could possibly list me as a supplier.
But I guess I got ahead of myself. Maybe after all this is behind me,
everyone will know I'm a TRULY Nice Person and will allways try and go out
of my way to be nice, and work with anyone who is nice to me.
Well
No need to hear in more bad comments on my Intergrity...I already feel
bad enough as it is. I'll try my best to get through this, and
hopefully can put it behind me. I just was sooo Shocked when I saw it...my
mouth hit the floor. You can Imagine how you would feel as well. I know we
cant please Everyone, but gosh I dont want people thinking that of me?
the Crack Emporium and such...that's pretty Harsh? That was the name of
my Store for 9 years...and I poured my heart and soul into my
collection. Not just somthing I made up. So I could not help but take it
offensive.
Anyway thank you for emailing me back...and I TRULY appologize
for being so Harsh...as I dont know you either...and you did not
deserve that! Paul, you do seem to know many people...where I pretty much
just know a few people. I would not mind it if you discussed our
conversation, I just hope it wont be turned into another joke or something. Man
people are hurtful...when they dont even know you. The first time I
ever even saw or knew about the Forum, was last night..and I must admit it
HURT!! I sent that guy Ralp Tolf or something like that his items, and
he claimed nothing EVER came, and completely more less cussed me out
and you name it through email. Dang I guess I should just refund his
payment as well? I was going to Completely Stop shipping overseas...for
this VERY reason because we basically have no way to prove we shipped the
items. But now that the NEW customs form allows us to keep a post
marked copy...I will continue to. Before that, I knew of NO way to prove you
sent something overseas? At least not like a Confirmation number. I
learnt FAST to use those on Everything that I could. Well I'm REALLY busy
trying to get everything straighted out, but I would TRULY appreciate
it if you would pass it on, that I'm TRULY sorry about ANY problems that
have come up, in the begining..but I'm FOR SURE no crook...or anything
like that? Been Extremely Deppressing as I'm SURE you could Imagine.

Well it was nice talking to you...and take care of that new little
Bundle of Joy! Those are the BEST of Times! :) I wish you nothing but the
best...and hope to soon put this behind me, and not be compared to
someone who obviously was not liked at all? And thanks for writing back,
Scott didn't. But oh well. Time will tell, and this will work itself out.
I may have a few more stray bad feedbacks to come in...HOPE not! But
once this is fixed...NO MORE! I can't handle the dang stress of it. I
GREATLY Value my reputation..but most of ALL my NAME...as I'm SURE you do
as well. Thanks again and hope to hear from you again sometime. James

I received a message from him very similar to his first post to you, breach. He was screaming about his lawyers (plural, no less), and that I'd better take the comments off, or shut the forum down, lest he unleash judicial armageddon.

Needless to say, I let him know that everyone here is free to express their opinions as they see fit (including TGE), and unless someone is posting personal attacks that are WAY out of line (racial, etc), the posts will be left as-is. I also let him know that what he needed to prove was "libel", not "slander". But if his lawyers are advising him to go the slander route, who am I to criticize.

Oh come on, let's be serious here. He has no lawyers, he has NO grounds, and he's a fucking idiot. I'd gladly do a few weeks in the can just to slap some sense into him. He drags all our reps down with his inane and illegal actions.
If and when he pops up again, Captain Shill will be on the scene. Dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-DAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
He's living proof that there ARE cases of BSE in the US.

Sometimes he didn't send the items at all. Sometimes he'd send partial deliveries. In any case it took him between one and three months to ship anything at all. He left retaliatory feedback and in the last weeks of his eBay existance he received negative feedback daily. Then he'd send you totally stupid emails and dared even to post in this forum. He received one hell of a beating and retired soon after. He did all this bullshit a year or more before under a similar eBay ID until jagd found out and posted it here.

To the TGE flaming thread: The return of the Eastern Treasure Chest??

Looking back at his old feedback stuff, what is amazing is he has so much negative feedback, peppered with one or two positives.

Alot of people say they will contact the FBI? What exatyl would that do?

Fraud is a federal offense, so its in the FBI's jurisdiction. If you file a complaint on ebay it will eventually lead you to a complaint form that will be sent out to the FBI for investigation. Albeit it an investigation that might take place 10 years from now.

Being that this thread is actually pertinent again, after a PM from BTB and the fact I FINALLY just received a response to my Friday night question. I decided to bump this thread. Anyway, Here is the response that I thay just received from our Good Friend ETC/TGE/jonb7839:

The AD&D was a mistake I would assume. If it was not for Ebay..WHERE would you find any of it? Sorry if you were offended, but we all have our own opinions. Again sorry if you were offended.Jon

Always remember to complete your transaction on eBay - it's the safer way to trade.

Is this message an offer to buy your item directly through email without winning the item on eBay? If so, please help make the eBay marketplace safer by reporting it to us. These "outside-of-eBay" transactions may be unsafe and are against eBay policy. Learn more about selling with confidence.

Use good judgement when accepting checks or money orders as payment for high value items.

Before shipping the goods, check with your bank to ensure that the payment method is valid, and that funds have cleared and are available.

If this email is inappropriate or violates eBay policy, please help protect other eBay community members by reporting it to us immediately.

Dear jonb7839,

Why is this module described as being for AD&D when it really is not? Why is this item listed as RARE, when it really isn't either? Why do all of your descriptions say RARE when 99% of your items are not? I am very interested in hearing your answer.

Please respond to the question on eBay by clicking the button below. You'll have the option to display your response directly on the listing.

Item # Item Title Listing end date

5191859275 TSR'S CN2 ~ CONAN THE MERCENARY ~ SEALED ADVENTURE!! May-06-05

Thank you,

I cut down BTB's post consdierably just to show the amazing similarity in his responses. Boy, Anyone else find this an amazing coincidence. It is only a matter of time before the negs start to roll on in............

Gotta agree with Frank here. Why change your name and not your auction layout? Surely it cannot be that difficult to change the layout of his auctions.
Or is VERY RARE, HARD TO FIND the secret to Ebay Mega$$$$?

Answer : because he thinks everyone is too dumb to notice when he reincarnates as jonb. He puts misleading information in nearly all of his auctions...because he thinks that everyone is too dumb to know better.
Sad thing is judging by his auction sales the latter seems to be true...

I don't think everyone is so dumb they don't realize who this guy is. I just think it boils down to the fact "He's got some great stuff for sale, what are the chances I'll be ripped off before he disappears again?" You may notice a lot of Acaeum members bid on his stuff even after all the revelations of the last few months, more of the "It won't happen to me" mindset. A friend of mine is going to Nuevo Laredo this summer with another buddy, and they plan on partying across the border. This is after the US government has issued a travel advisory because something like 25 american citizens have been kidnapped there this year, with only 12 returning home, the others being found dead or having disappeared. When I voiced my concerns, he has shrugged them off and said "What are the chances it'll happen to me?" Same mindset here. You know the guy is a crook and liar, but the stuff he's offering is just so enticing, you can't back away. So you hold your nose, bid, and if you win and send your money, cross your fingers and hope it arrives. I would never bid on anything he offers, no matter the deal, because in my mind it's like eating at the restaurant that serves incredible food, but has been shut down twice before for Salmonella poisoning.....why risk it, there are other restaurants (or resellers of RPGs) out there?

Anyone noticed he's got nothing for sale at the moment? Did he take his auctions down, or is this just a lull between auctions?

As I said, I'll be in the area later this month, so there is really no risk for me.

Back in the days pre-Ebay I bought a $100 worth of stuff from a guy right outside Kansas City MO (Overland Park, I think). Well, he never shipped the stuff, had a billion excuses, never sent the refund, etc.
It turns out my wife is from KC and that summer we were going to visit her parents in Independence. I got the guy's address and then one early evening when we were there I drove over to his house...turns out it was only like 15 minutes away from my wife's parents. If he lived in a trailer or in a scary looking house i was going to drive right by, but it turned out he lived in a very nice suburban mansion. I got out and knocked on the door, since it was still early, and when the guy answered the door introduced myself. I can look scary when I want to and I had definitely played up the "biker" look by wearing dark sunglasses, t shirt, jeans, boots, long leather jacket (in August no less), letting my already crazy hair go wild, unshaven stubble to go with my facial hair, etc.
The guy about crapped his pants when I told him who I was, and I told him I had driven all the way up from Texas that day just for the express purpose of getting that $100 or the material because I didn't like outstanding debts. He apologized profusely and said he hadn't wanted to tell me but he accidentally sold my lot twice (huh?) and had sent it to someone else, and was trying to get the same stuff so he could send me another lot (there was no way because there were a lot of hard to find items in the pile I had bought from him, he was just making excuses). Instead he wrote me out a check right there, and I could tell he was about to piss his pants he was so scared. I don't think he was scared at me per se, just the idea that yes, I and anyone else he didn't send stuff to had his home address, and that someone was so pissed off they'd drive 14 hours just to get $100 back, and if he didn't pay right then there was no telling what I would do all night just roaming around his neighborhood (his car was parked out front, I was either going to get $100 or take $100 out on his car). I told him I was going to the bank the next morning and the check better be good, and he assured me it was, and it turned out to be no problem. Looking back I'd never do that sort of thing again, I mean he could have just said no, laughed in my face and slammed the door in my face, but I suppose he figured paying me off was better than looking over his shoulder all week, not that I would have actually done anything since he obviously had all my vital information also. But back then I was 10 years younger I thought I was invincible. One of the reasons I myself got a PO Box right after that!!!!
