I know I spent way too much for my OCE, but I was a bit more of a newb then.  Think it came to $235 with all 5 supplements.  On a side note, I did end up with a copy of Gods, Demigods and Heros that had an odd printing error, with like 8 pages inserted twice into the book (and missing some pages).  I however sold that and bought a replacement immediately.

It would seem that more and more people want the "white box" than ever before, most likely that many do not do thier research into printing availability before bidding.

I've got one OCE. I bought it back when they first came out. Kept it ever since. I lost most of my other gaming stuff when I moved once, and had to replace everything one item at a time (I'm currently on a JG kick, replacing all the stuff I used to have back in the day). The OCE box was one of the only things I didn't lose. :( :(

I've also got an 8th printing Blackmoor, and 11th printing Greyhawk, a 7th printing Eldritch Wizardry, and a 2nd printing Gods, Demi-Gods and Heroes. I've got 'em all stuck in the same box. All the books are in great condition, but the box is sorta battered and has a pen mark on the cover. Don't think I'd ever sell 'em though. I'm a nostalgic collector.

Time to have a delve again... First up;

"The box cover is slightly discolored and one corner is torn" (hidden in the pic, of course).
"The books do have an old book smell about them".
... Plus obvious spine roll on M&M.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5174072867
$305 for an OCE, 12th Greyhawk, 9th Blackmoor and 7th G,DG&H.

<extsr> = Frank Mentzer, yes? (Stopped just shy of $300).

Others in descending order (since the last batch);

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5171573792
$174; OCE (toned box with corner wear, little dishing), six supplements (2* Greyhawk) (relatively early but with a few poorer copies), Chainmail.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5171889887
$173; (was an OCE, IIRC)
"Box lid has some soiling and creases, as shown in photo below, but otherwise all of the booklets are in excellent, near-mint condition"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5171506612
$153; 5th(?) print (box slightly battered and discolored)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5174041257
$150; OCE
"The three volumes are in excellent condition; the only obvious defect are the staples which are starting to rust.  The Reference Sheets are not stapled (never were) and are very discolored on the front sheet - the rest of the Reference Sheets are in excellent condition.  The box is well worn and discolored.  Two corners of the box top have split and have been taped with masking tape.  There is a reinforcement ring for a punched hole stuck to the side of the box.  There is an oder of mustiness to all booklets and the box." 8O

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5171795451
$133; OCE (bashed, discolored, taped corner), lizard Greyhawk and Blackmoor, Wizard Eldritch. "some signs of age"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5170212176
$110; the is-it-an-OCE copy. Apparently the nicest of the bunch although the "browning" on the box is impossible to see. Good strong square corners, though.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5170873800
$108; OCE (dished and slightly toned box, but not too bad)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5172203222
$108; OCE (possibly the best copy; and the cheapest!); "Box is in excellent condition with only two marks on the side from removal of price stickers. The three books (and reference sheets) are in pristine condition -- rarely handled, no pen or pencil marks".

No obvious "bargain basement" this time and very strong bidding for three OCE(?) books with spine creases, sans ref. sheets
$60; http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 6949013450

4th(?)/5th vs. OCE ratio remains very heavily 6-1 to 10-1 in favor of the OCEs...

"Old book smell", on that set I lost out on last night.  Went for what over $300.

If the winner was someone that frequents the boards, mind letting us know if that was indeed a moldy/musty/mildew smell that I was worried it might be?

Old book smell could be anything, but with faroff blurry pictures you can't even safely hazzard a guess.
