This one here is just funny in so many ways I don't even know where to begin. Decide for yourself...

Classic quote from this auction description:

My geek husband is changing geek styles and has asked me to sell some of his geek stuff to get money for new types of geek stuff,  so check back because we'll be posting more.  If you have any questions, please ask, I obviously won't know, but he will.  Thanks for looking.

The description on these is pretty pathetic but the real reason I am posting them here is because of the photos.

WTF???  :?  Why would anyone take a picture of themselves and the item in front of a mirror?

The item title says "Taliban", but that's Tougar misreading the word because of the Talligraphy used on the game.

(Kind of like the death/black metal bands whose logos are indecipherable.  It looks cool . . .)

Dont think i did the link right but the ebay auction number is there if you want to look it up or just do a search for Monster Manual NIB

I dont recall any of the original hardbacks being shrinkwrapped, but this person seems to believe he has a 1sd ed Monster Manual in Original Shrinkwrap, Also included is a copy of the MM with red text on cover, which I believe would be the more valuable item. The opening bid is $49.99 with $12.50 shipping and Awful feedback. Has anyone seen this auction yet and care to comment? I saw it last night still has 9 days to go.

It's the 2nd or 3rd time he's tried to sell these books. Seems like the price was initially 150...

That's the junk yard guy right?

Cheers

The original books were not sold in shrinkwrap so far as I know.

And...that is most certainly not a 1st edition Monster Manual in the shrink.  Wrong logo, for one.

This guy is either stupid or a crook.  (How often do I say that?)

Well, he's wrong about the shrinkwrap, but I don't see the seller making any claims that it's a first printing.  It would be perfectly reasonable to call it a 1st edition Monster Manual, though.  I'd assume you meant 1st Edition AD&D.

One is a 3rd printing, and one is a 4th.  (You can see the spine has white lettering, so you know it's not a 3rd+.)

I concur, they were not (having picked them up when they first came out and drooling over the PHB)...

Ah, the old days...

I was obviously taking a cue from someone else...I see now that the seller did not say "First Edition."

So, the first time I call someone stupid I turn out to be wrong...which is a good point to consider about using the word.

A better description than "liar" might be "disingenuous."  He has to know the shrinkwrap is not original.
