Well...rare as opposed to Keep on the Borderlands.

   I like this guy.  He has about eight hours on his CAD or other mapping program invested and he's trying to make a buck.

   Anyone who cannot draw a few shapes on graph paper, or think of incredibly clever names like "Temple of Blood" might actually pay the money.

   I hope he rakes it in.   :)

If he'd just not post so damn many I'd be fine with it, but yeah it is sort of just one of those things you have to deal with on Ebay.

lets see what amusing reply i get...

Al

well give the guy his due - quick reply:

Hi,

 Yes, Rare is a subjective term. My items are rare in that I am
the only person selling them, and that they have been produced
in limited quantities, and that there really is nothing else out there
like them. (No Map Sets of Similiar Quality, No Tome of 1000
"Unique"items, No DM Kit.)

 Less than 500 of each map set has been produced. Less than
200 DM kits. Less then 3000 Tomes. Most items produced by other
publishers are produced and released in quantities of 10's of thousuands,
and are available in book stores or various online shops.
The stuff I sell is not. When I stop selling these SSD items, you
will probably never see them again. I should state that the Tome I sell,
is out of print, and will never be reprinted. (Yes I have a bunch,
but when then gone, there gone.)  Its important to state items as
rare, because people might pass up something they may never
be able to get again. The rare of statement just clues "one time" ebayers
to look closer. Sorry for any confusion. I hope this clears things up.

Best Regards,

I have two of his items. My kid draws better. Drunk, he'd still draw better.

Wow - it must be good though - look at this from the auction description -

"Lots of challenges, a great set of maps!
Useful for novice & expert DM/GM's alike!
- The Grand Dungeon Lord, DM Guild

What a great title - kinda like the masons of roleplaying :lol:

I stopped using "rare" in any of my descriptions years ago, seeing it as an unforgivable waste of four precious item-title characters. Just using our little world as an example, those characters can be put to better use with terms such as "TSR," "D&D," "AD&D," a four-digit TSR product code, etc., etc. Almost anything else would be better.

Plus, the term has no meaning on eBay. It's entirely subjective and woefully over-used. Consider that, at this moment in time:

*365,239 items have "rare" in their titles;
*40,234 of those are in Toys & Hobbies;
*3,572 of those are in Games;
*and 1,127 of those are in Role-playing.

That doesn't fit any definition of the word I'm familiar with.

Yup.  I wonder if it's the whole book, or just the back cover.  Sounds crazy to us, but I bet there's someone out there that collects "vintage comic-book advertisements"...and please let me know if you find them.  :twisted:

Ebay is one giant mousetrap, and this sort of auction is a nice example.

I just wish I was a trapper, not a mouse.

Saw those last week and just sighed...

then I figured that they were meant to be there as they could be used by the "stereotypical" gamer still living in his mom's basement at 45 with no friends....just prop them ( don't forget Enrique ) up across the table from you and "presto" instant gaming group  :lol:

Whining ego-maniacs?  Wild and illogical gyrations?   Detachment from reality?

  Rick and Enrique sound like ideal gaming buddies!   :lol:

I made the mistake of clicking before reading the link.  I may have to see counseling and might actually be scared for life.
