I was watching this seller because they were offering Buy-It-Now items at low prices., but I missed this one when it was listed:

I know nothing about Harn. Found this. It quickly got out of my budget, but I have a feeling I lost something good:

Was just checking to see if any 2nd prints had been up recently and took a look at completed listings.  Course I was a couple of hours late by then.

Had a chance and went higher than I normally would, but alas, someone was crazy enough to pay this much for it. 2nd one I've seen in 2 weeks. There is hope that there is another one out there and one less War Bidder to worry about.

Keep looking for it, LordJr.

Here's how the "Acaeum Effect" works:

1)  An item or an auction is discussed on the Acaeum.

2)  The discussion generates bids.

3)  Owners see the auction and put up their own copies, hoping to cash in.

4)  Two more auctions go for high amounts before interest wanes.

5)  The fourth or fifth auction generates less interest as the big dogs are satiated and the little fish are scared away.  That's the auction you pounce on.

It seriously happens.  This item is a little more rare than some, so you may have to keep shaking the tree.

Yep, it's been about a 5 year wait, not constantly looking like I am now. Perhaps I can wait a bit longer. Also, lost another auction today as I was busy working and forgot to snipe. Oh well, this other one is rare too, but not one I've longed for near as long.

I was in the running up to $41 and I thought that was on the brink of too much.
But it is a sweet looking 2nd print...

And at $103.5 it still aint quite over yet.
Highest sales price for a 2nd print Monster Manual ever?
Or at least one not known to have been owned by someone famous?

Perhaps the high amount is due to the book being owned by the owners of the famous ex-smoker canines :):

We have Corgis and a cat.  The cat doesn't shed too badly but the possibility of a dog hair in your package is high.
We don't smoke and we made the Corgis quit too.

True enough.
Yes, I saw that one too...

All of sellers core rules hardback books went for really nice prices.
Those ankle biter stories seem to be great selling points... 8)

MM going for over $100 now????

You could take one for $30.00 a year or two ago...

Now that I have a NM 1st print in hand, I am hoping to obtain nice copies of other prints of the Monster Manual too.
Which is why I bid that one way up to $41, thinking that would be enough for it... :?

That was a really nice looking copy but still... $103.50 is way beyond the stretch for a 2nd print.
Especially as I found it really hard to sell a nice 1st print for only a few dollars more just last month.
Perhaps the two bidders who were fighting over it thought it was a first print?
