I've had it happen in my favor before where I bid while an auction was almost ending, but my bid must have registered a little after someone else tried to snipe it as well. Ebay said I had to bid such and such minimum and so I went a few cents over that, well seems another also must have bid that minimum (maybe got the same message) but mine won the auction. It was years ago though and it has not happened to me that way again. Of course back then it did make me bid consecutive times in a row near the end of auctions after that incident, until I finally figured out the way to truely snipe.

I forgot to while bidding to convert GB Pounds to US Dollars (I was using a  US$1.85=GBP 1.00 rough conversion) AND forgot to account for shipping costs from England in the same auction!!!  I sent an email through ebay to the seller questioning why high costs;  he replied good-naturedly that I had forgotten the conversion rate to US dollars!!    (and it was a boxed set, not individual books.)  DUUHHH!!!

Yes GBP   It was much worse when the shipping was added in.

The famous Pharaoh incident was the only case where I have seen someone bid in dollars on a pound auction and claim he didn't know.

Hey, I've done it before.  I knew it about three seconds after I bid, though.  Fortunately, enough people value this stuff 200%+ more than what I do, so it was one of those times I enjoyed being outbid.

Howdy,

I once had a guy buy $370 worth of Dragons and then at the end of the auction realized they were Dragons and not Dungeons like he had thought.

He begged for mercy on that one, so I let him off the hook. Mistakes happen.

Paul

5th Alpha White Box:

** expired/removed eBay auction **

Really thought I'd nab that one.  I'm consoled only that it went to someone who can appreciate it, and not a rabid newbie after an OCE.  Congrats Paul!

I thought you were going to take it as well.  I might have even come to visit to check it out :)  The seller sent me some pictures of the pamphlet if you didn't get them.

So what the heck happened here:

** expired/removed eBay auction **

I mean it certainly wasn't in perfect condition, but I have seen a lot worse looking 1st prints go for a heck of a lot more.  :?

Yeah, that looks like a pretty nice copy.  Must have been overlooked.  I didn't catch that one.

I saw it, but I've already got two.  Can't bid on everything.

Wow, I am surprised this went this cheap:

** expired/removed eBay auction **

I saw Stephen's bid on it and just tossed in a small bid overtop to subtly let him know that I knew what he was bidding on.  After I got outbid, I figured it was probably common knowledge what was included within this auction, which apparently I was wrong. :?
