Wizards of the Coast will be reprinting the 1st Edition DMG, PH and MM in April 2012.

According to this solicitation document, the three main 1st Edition AD&D books will be reprinted (with a new cover, but the same content) this year, and some of the proceeds will benefit the Gygax Memorial Fund.

(Tip of the hat to OnlineDM who first reported this over on ENWorld.)

Hey everyone,

So I guess they will get added to the Rulebooks and Sets Index of The Acaeum then?

Best regards,
Ronald

If ever there were a set of classic books that did not need a reprint, the AD&D Monster Manual, Players Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide would be at the top of the list.  These books are extremely common.

WOTC could have had Gygax in their company fold when he was alive.  Now they want to help out with his memorial fund?

WOTC is very obviously trying to mend fences with their core market.  While I applaud their overdue epiphany, I wonder if it will have the effect they're looking for at this point.

You can buy original copies of all of the books on ebay, in nice shape, for half that cost...and donate the rest to the Gygax Memorial Fund.

However, I hope they sell twice as good as anything published for 4th edition, just to prove a point.  Wonder if WOTC would "get it" even then, though....

I hope this is teh shape of things to come.  I would love to see AD&D stuff become available again and more people playing the game.

Well, I guess that this reprint will not be aimed to uber-collectors. Anyway, 'esclusive to North America' clause permitting   , I'll most surely buy a copy of the set.

Well, don't want to say I didn't see that coming.
It seemed like the only plausable way forward for the company and the game. You realise this opens the doors for reprinting modules and then 'new' supplements and hardbacks.

I just noticed something... They misspelled Players Handbook and Dungeon Masters Guide. Yeah, they love 1st ed. all right :).

1st Edition Premium Player's Handbook  (no category)  D&D  (no author)  04/17/12
1st Edition Premium Dungeon Master's Guide  (no category)  D&D  (no author)  04/17/12

Ya gotta love the "no author" thing in their catalog, too. Yeah, they've got all kinds of respect for Gary Gygax...

Where the heck do we buy this thing? It's not listed on Amazon. Guess I'll have to try out my (new) FLGS. Never been in it.

EDIT: Just occurred to me... are they going to produce them with their usual glued bindings? What'll the new cover art look like?

Now if they really wanted to get some attention, they'd reprint Deities and Demigods too, squids and all..
