This seems the best place to ask this, especially since there is at least one former TSR employee who comes by here...

I have two books (Legends and Lore, and Oriental Adventures) which I bought many years ago - most likely in auction at a Gen Con or Winter Fantasy, although I honestly don't recall the details, one of which says "Jon Pickens Office Copy" and the other of which says "Jon P Office Copy" (written in blue pencil on the flyleaf in both cases).

Jon Pickens has a proofreading credit on Oriental Adventures and has assorted other credits for TSR.  Is there any way this can be authenticated (or invalidated)?  Obviously when I go to sell this on Ebay (I am SyrAtano on ebay, btw) I will mention this and what I believe it to be, but I wouldn't find it likely that many would give it a lot of credence without knowing me.

Any thoughts?

Carl

Most likely they were Jon's office copies. I worked with Jon for many years while I was at TSR, from sometime in the 80's up through the time I left.  He was a staff editor throughout most or all of that time and was our walking encyclopedia of rules trivia.

Hi, Zeb. Mike Breault here.

Yep, Jon Pickens was a TSR staffer for years and years. At one time he was editor of Strategy & Tactics magazine, he was indeed our walking encyclopedia, he did proofreading and editing on a number of projects, and he did tons of testing, proofreading, and editing on the SPI line stuff.

I was the editor for the OA project, and I can verify that he proofread that book.

Welcome to the board Mike.  I remember buying some of your collection a couple of years ago before I joined this board.  Very nice stuff.  Anything left?

Heh. Actually I do have a bunch left. I was just staring at a stack of 60-70 Dragon mags last night and thinking of putting them into 2- and 3-packs, taking pictures of them, doing write-ups, posting them to EBay, etc. I have a bunch of other stuff too--TSR & non-TSR games.

If anyone's interested, I could take an inventory and post a write-up. Might take me a week or so though.  :(

Thanks for the reminder to introduce myself. I will go to the intro thread.

I was googling Metamorphosis Alpha when I hit on this site and came in to investigate. I saw the thread on Dave Sutherland's auction and am sorry I missed it. Dave is a great guy; he and I worked together on a whole bunch of TSR stuff back in the mid to late 80s (he as a graphic artist and me as an editor/developer). He gave me a bunch of minis, including unreleased Dragonlance ones and some ogre mages and such. Easy to work with and a nice person. I'm really sorry to hear about his health problems. Does anyone have a current email address for him?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike

I'd just like to ask (before anyone else does) if you would like to sell any of your choice items with a BIN?

Only kidding, forum joke.

Dumb question: What's a BIN?  :?

Sorry.  Buy It Now.

eBay allows you to list an item with a BIN which closes the auction at that price if a buyer wants to avoid the time and effort of normal bidding.

I am told ( ) that some unscrupulous buyers sometimes attempt to get a seller to change their listing to include a BIN which could be below the normal price for such an item.  Despicable.

Thanks. I haven't been on EBay much the last couple of years. I'm here now because I just finished the voice recording sessions for the game on which I've been working and I'm kinda drifting around at work in a blissful lack of things to do. :)

For a lot of the stuff I have, I was considering just posting them on here and seeing what people would be interested in paying for them. (Unless this is against the rules of the forum.) I found EBay to be a pain to sell things like Dragons, as about 20% of the buyers never completed the sale.
