I've done a lot of searching, but I can't find an authoritative list of which dividers belong in which of the Monstrous Compendiums.  From MC5 on, they're marked, so that's not really a big deal, but this is what I believe is correct for MC1-4.  Can someone confirm please?

MC1:

red dragon - cover of Dungeon 1
hydra and warrior - interior art from a Dragon, don't recall which one
orcs protecting banner - cover of Dragon 127
skeleton breaking through door - cover of Dragon 138
archer and giant skeleton - cover of Dragon 126
Kostchtchie fighting two warriors - cover of Dragon 119
fire breathing dragon - cover of Dragon 122
taer and warrior - cover of Dragon 109

MC2:

Strahd on balcony - cover of I6
elf with dragon orb - cover of DL10
Strahd carrying woman - cover of I10
skeletons - cover of CA2
flying centaur - cover of M2
drow, demon, and adventurer - don't recognize source
lizardman carrying woman - cover of B9
Dragotha/Spellfire - interior art from a Dragon initially, I think

MC3:

unicorn in sunlight - cover of FR2
djinn and dragon breaking through statue - cover of FR3
beholder crime boss - cover of FR1
necromancer and skeletons - cover of FR4

MC4:

red dragon vs. copper/bronze dragon - cover of DL3
Lord Soth and Kitiara - interior art from a Dragon, I think
blue dragon attacking Sturm - cover of DL8
dragon and sailing ship - cover of DL12

MC4 yes, MC3 I believe Strahd on balcony - cover of I6  instead of unicorn, others not sure as I can't find any files/photos I thought I had of them.

Your MC 1 and MC 2 are the same as what I have

for MC 2
The dracolich attacking the party is from a Forgotten Realms novel called Spellfire

Unfortunately I don't have MC 3 and my MC 4 is in shrink :)

I'm 99% sure my list is right... if only I could remember which ones I opened from shrink...

The dracolich is from a Dragon 134 interior as well as Spellfire, but which came first, I'm not sure.

fwiw, that Dragon issue was June 1988 and the book was released Aug 1988. However on Clyde's site, he mentions it was painted (and titled) specifically for the book cover.

That may have been the case, but the issue of Dragon was printed before the book. And since TSR was in the habit of buying the complete piece, they could use it for just about anything.
Such was the brainstorm behind rehashing all the old artwork for Spellfire...a suckish idea for a suckish game.

Not to get totally off topic here, but speaking of the Spellfire card game, I saw a booster pack called Ruins & Runes where they took black and white illustrations from the MM and some modules and proceeded to color them in. Needless to say, it looked terrible.

So, getting this back on track... can anyone help me confirm this?  Come one, someone else has these - take a second and crack them open.   :D

beholder crime boss - cover of FR1
necromancer and skeletons - cover of FR4

red dragon vs. copper/bronze dragon - cover of DL3
Lord Soth and Kitiara - interior art from a Dragon, I think
blue dragon attacking Sturm - cover of DL8
dragon and sailing ship - cover of DL12

That is the exact order I have mine in. They are in a seperate binder from their monstrous sheets to keep the tabs from getting damaged.

Curious about various printings for any of these besides the MC1.  Did MCs 2-15 have more then one printing? And if so what are the differences?

But seriously, I know of a couple - MC3 and MC8 (but I don't collect Ravenloft, Dark Sun, or Spelljammer, so I can't comment on those).

MC3 - 1st has the angled logo, 2nd has the gold logo (and the cover adds the FR logo)

MC8 - 1st has the angled logo, 2nd has the gold logo

Other than that, I only know of the confusing mess that is MC1.

I'll have to dig out my box to check which different prints I have.  I know Ravenloft had at least 3 prints (can't remember what MC number it is though).  One set has red ink and another blue.

Was helpful looking that over again, course wonder if pages are different for the various printings like Mars says for Ravenloft or just the trifold cover for some of these.

Monstrous Compendium dividers - definitive list needed

I've been trying to think of a topic heading more geeky than this.

So far...no.   :D

Hey, somebody has to work out the minutiae so we have the collective knowledge somewhere.   :D
