Random lists of monsters, treasures, traps, etc, to aid the Dungeon Master in quickly stocking dungeon levels.  Much like the Dungeon Geomorphs: questionably useful.

Monster & Treasure Assortment Set One: Levels One-Three
Monster & Treasure Assortment Set Two: Levels Four-Six
Monster & Treasure Assortment Set Three: Levels Seven-Nine
Monster & Treasure Assortment Sets One-Three: Levels One-Nine

The three individual sets were later compiled into Monster & Treasure Assortment Sets One-Three: Levels One-Nine.  Contributor Trent Smith has documented the changes made from the individual sets to this compilation.

Interesting trivia: on the back cover of the compilation Monster & Treasure Assortment Sets One-Three: Levels One-Nine, that's Magneto's helmet in the treasure chest the thief is looting, reminiscent of the comic-book art reference in D1-2 Descent into the Depths of the Earth.  Thanks to Mike Badolato for this info.

Printing Information  Logos

Monster & Treasure Assortment Set One

  • First (1977):  Lizard logo.  TSR Stock Number on bottom left is "F1006".  Rear cover mentions the future release of Outdoor Geomorphs Set One, among others.  This printing was included in early D&D Basic Sets, but was NOT shrinkwrapped (making the separately-sold, shrinkwrapped copies even rarer).  Thanks to John Justice for help with this info, and to Daniel Thingvold for the scan..

  • Second:  As First, but Lizard logo (and the adjacent address) is very slightly larger, and TSR Stock Number on bottom left is "9011".  Rear cover now has the price for Outdoor Geomorphs Set One.  Copies have been spotted with and without the 3-hole-punching.  Thanks to Aneoth and Rene Hurka for help with this info.

  • Third (1978?):  Wizard logo.  TSR Stock Number on bottom left is "9011".

Monster & Treasure Assortment Set Two

  • First (1977):  Lizard logo.  TSR Stock Number on bottom left is "F1007".  Mentions "Hobbits" (encounter 43, level 6).  Rear cover has correct information for this print; i.e., it states that it's for Levels Four to Six.  Thanks to Sean Dennehy for this info.

  • Second (1977):  Lizard logo.  TSR Stock Number on bottom left is "F1007".  Mentions "Hobbits" (encounter 43, level 6).  Rear cover is now identical to that of the Second print of Set One above, aside from the color -- right down to the statement "this Monster And Treasure Assortment (Levels One to Three)..."!  This error was never corrected in any subsequent print.  We surmise that TSR either switched the rear-cover master by accident and never noticed, or it was damaged and they substituted the Set One rear cover in its place (which would have been easier than re-creating the cover from scratch).  Thanks to Neville Ridley-Smith for help with this info.

  • Third:  Lizard logo, but the logo is smaller. TSR Stock Number on bottom left is "9012".  References are now to Halflings (encounter 43, level 6).  Rear cover is still from the Second Print of Set One, aside from the color.  Thanks to Rene Hurka and Alan Popow for help with this info, and Michael Deaton for the scan.

  • Fourth (1978?):  Wizard logo.  TSR Stock Number on bottom left is "9012".  References are to Halflings (encounter 43, level 6).  Rear cover is still from the Second Print of Set One, aside from the color.  Thanks to Michael Deaton for this info.

Monster & Treasure Assortment Set Three

  • First (1978):  Lizard logo.  TSR Stock Number on bottom left is "9015" (there is no "F" code printing for this Set... TSR had already switched over to their four-digit stock number system).  Much like Set Two above,  the rear cover boldly states that this is Set One: "this Monster And Treasure Assortment (Levels One to Three)....", and the product list only shows Sets One and Two.  Thanks to Adrian Newman and Neville Ridley-Smith for help with this info.

  • Second:  Lizard logo.  Continues to state that it's Set One on the back, but now correctly mentions Set Three in the product list.  Thanks to Michael Deaton for this info.

  • Third:  Wizard logo.  Same rear cover as the First print above (omits mention of Set Three in the product list).  Thanks to Michael Deaton and Rene Hurka for this info.

  • Fourth:  Wizard logo.  Continues to state that it's Set One on the back.  Does not list prices in the product list, though it now includes Set Three.  Thanks to John Huckerby for help with this info.

Monster & Treasure Assortment Sets One-Three

  • First (1980):  Wizard logo.  Cover art is a color version of the Trampier art used for Monster & Treasure Assortment Set Two.  Inside front and back covers are printed in either light blue or black ink, and with or without 3-hole-punching (both combinations have been spotted).  ISBN on back cover bottom left.  Thanks to Josh Berling, Dan Henson, Russ Levy, and John Proctor for help with this info.

  • Second:  Wizard logo.  Inside front and back covers are printed in either light blue or black ink, and with or without 3-hole-punching (both combinations have been spotted).  ISBN and Product Number back cover bottom left.  Thanks to Michael Deaton, Rene Hurka, and John Proctor for this info.
