Hi guys, I had a few requests to include research of Appendix N works chronologically to supplement the D&D history thread.

I don't have the ability to determine which volumes Gary owned or when he came across specific pieces that helped inspire D&D, of course, but I can provide a chronology of first appearances of the referenced fiction.  Here's the start of that.  I'll work on this more later in the summer.  If anyone wants to add info or just chat about Conan/whatever stories and their influence on the game, feel free.  Have fun at Project Gutenberg.  :D

TO DO:
(need to add Norse sagas etc.)
(research August Derleth works which were influential, probably HPL collaborations)
(research which Andre Norton books inspired Gygax)
(include Sold Rope to the Gnoles)
(research http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_G. ... bliography to determine Stanley Weinbaum influences)
(research http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Willi ... bliography to determine Jack Williamson influences)
(consider adding HPL collaborations with other authors, refer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._P._Love ... bliography)

(Note that Gygax in the DMG states that H.P. Lovecraft is one of the major influences on the game, but does not list the particular works.  The above is all-inclusive of Lovecraft's published stories, and will be edited down.)

Don't know if anyone realizes (or cares), but Appendix N has been updated for 5E to include more "modern" fantasy and sci-fi since the printing of the original core rules.

Sorry, no page to post with a list as of yet.

Dave, get the barbarian in the corner a drink, quick!
