Hello Acaeum,

I am writing today to request assistance on this item. I have what I believe to be a first edition/first printing of The Book Of Monsters. I have not been able to find a single copy of this early book anywhere, and I feel from my research that it must be pretty unique/rare?

My questions for you all are..

1) Do you know if this is in fact the 1st edition/1st printing?

2) Are there any records of recent sales you know of, and/or do you know the value of this item in todays 2023 market?

I have attached the front cover of my particular edition for you to take a look at.

Very much appreciated for your time!
Ben

What an awesome address the company had... 1776 East Jefferson Street.  It would be hard to get more American than that.

Ok, I see that now! I feel silly for not catching that. Much appreciated on the pictures and clarification on the two different editions. Thank you!

Yes, there are at least three known printings of the book.  They typically sell for around $80-150.

Yep. I keep meaning to update that site but never seem to have the time.
Had all three at one time or other and always preferred the Gamescience version myself.
Welcome, Bendragon.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

I looked for the thread about Chainmail from years ago where I figured out there were two different versions of Chainmail 2nd Edition but I suck at searches. As I recall, I had two copies and was flipping through them when I noticed one was printed in Maine and one in, ummmmm, Michigan? I believe it turned out the Maine one was a lot rarer.
Anyways, does anyone count those as separate printings? At the time Guidon was printing out of both locations, so the only difference was the address.

The Acaeum makes reference to two different 2nd edition Chainmail printings, one from Maine and one from Indiana. Personally, I think there are three different printings. What I would call a 3rd print has a much darker cover than the 2nd prints. It is quite noticeable when they are side to side.

Thanks, Strat, it was Indiana. Before I found my Maine printing there was only the Indiana one. So I guess we consider them separate printings.
