That's a good idea.
For the magazines I got recently that sounds like it'd work well (old issues of Starlog and a couple of modules that are easily replaceable).

For more valuable items is there an alternative to tape?

Thanks,
Keith

The really hardcore collectors remove the staples anyway to prevent rust. Although I'm a little puzzled by your train of thought - why don't you just use a 3rd-level MU warding spell? That's how the rest of us do it.

Something lightweight would be great, something that I could throw in my backpack.

I store all my magazines in boxes that look like comic book storage boxes.  I bought mine from my FLGS.

http://www.bcwsupplies.com/products/magazine-boxes/

My portable box is some stupid little box that once held teaching supplies  It's something like 10x11x2.  I can stuff five mags or so in there, add a little padding, and they travel just fine.   8)   Unfortunately, I don't know if something like that is for sale.   :?

Not sure if they are all over the country but The Container Store has excellent selection of stuff as well. I have been buying some water resistant bins, if you will, to store SW box sets and the like. Works well. They also had some portable type document holders for various size sheets of paper. I still haven't found an adequate solution to magazines, I never liked the cardboard comic boxes.

BCW supplies is great in my opinion too.

Regarding rusting staples or staples at all for that matter, do hardcore collectors really remove them, even if not rusted? I guess depending upon where you live and how they are protected the staples will eventually rust. I understand removing rusted ones or even replacing them (by the way what size staples are they?) but removing good staples? Even if it is not shrinkwrapped, for a collectible, doesn't that "lower" its value? Almost like it is not original?

I removed staples once but couldn't find adequate replacements.

The rust spreads to the paper, disintegrating it. The final result is similar to a stapled book that has been ripped apart. I just had an old book do that - the cover popped off with an audible snap when I opened it.

As to whether some collectors actually remove the staples, you should ask ScketreWhisp®.

I always remove the staples. It is the first thing I do after tearing off the shrinkwrap.

I generally then like to highlight all of the treasure (particularly magic) with a yellow marker as well :D

You can never have too much of something you didn't need in the first place.

I took a Sharpie and crossed-out Hobbits, Balrogs and Ents in my 4th ed. white box LBBs.
;-)

BCW looks like it probably has what I'm looking for ...

On Ultrapro I'm seeing lots of card collection protection (hey, that rhymes!) but not seeing anything for mags or modules.
or click here

I'll be in Birmingham this weekend, and Homewood Toy & Hobby down there has a really good selection of ... well, everything.
It might be best for me to see this stuff in person.

I got all excited as I am in Birmingham. Then I realised you meant Birmingham, Alabama. Oh Well.  If you are ever in the original Birmingham I'll buy you a pint.

And it isn't totally off topic as I bought magazine sleeves and boards from Nostalgia & Comics here.

That's a given. I started to draw the line though when I found separating pages individually and hole punching them for folders was just taking too much time....

And I would buy the next round!
I hope to get back to England one day.
Last time was the summer of 2000, and I had a blast.

It's really a shame I've never had a chance to meet another Acaeum Member.
I've been here off-and-on for years, had great conversations and trades, but never seen anyone in person, as it were.
A pub in England .... **begins daydreaming**

It's a deal!

My local, The Fighting Cocks, even made it in to the NY Times last year:

Item 8.

The beer's pretty good, but I'm afraid a lot of it we drink flat and at room temperature. :)

Oh and Tolkein lived in Moseley (where the Fighting Cocks and I are located) so a trip would almost be on topic!

I'll drink it hot and straight from the keg.  No worries on that front.

And thanks for the link.
My wife is from Birmingham, Alabama, and so it's like a second hometown to me.
We'd always wondered about "mothership" in England, what it was like, etc, but all our trips to the UK have been to London.
Thanks!
Keith

P.S. The Tolkein thing is a gravy :)
