Evidently, the good folks at eBay have confused the D&D RPG with a CCG since the subcategories for Dungeons and Dragons are:

Accessories
Boxes/Packs
Full Sets
Individual Cards
Other

Has anyone tried to contact and persuade eBay that these listings are pretty useless to the D&D RPG collector?
If so, have you received any repsonses besides boilerplate?
And what subcategories for D&D would you propose that would be most useful to potential bidders and sellers?  By edition (1, 2, 3, 3.5, Basic, etc)?  By type (adventure, sourcebook, campain setting, etc.)?  By decade published?

I know; I usually just 44112 my items and leave it at that.  I believe a more useful category scheme would be sorted out not so much by product, but by collector type:

In-Print Material
Out-of-Print Material
Toys & Miscellaneous

Or product category could go like this:

Boxed Sets
Lots & Collections
Modules
Rulebooks
etc.

The problem is that the product category approach, while logical, would get pretty fragmented.

eBay Germany has divided into

- D&D 1st Edition
- AD&D
- AD&D 2nd Edition
- D&D 3rd Edition

Each of these categories is divided into the subcategories

- Adventures
- Rule books
- Boxed Sets
- Miscellanous

... couldn't think of anything better.

The whole idea of subcategories below "Roleplaying" is misconceived.

Instead, there should be a whole bunch of checkboxes, and you can tick as many as you want.

nn, that approach is logical and easy to use; the problem is that eBay is driven by money, and some people will exploit the system in any way they can to make more money.

In other words, someone selling a set of AD&D collector cards might checkmark all of the subcategories under RPGs, whether they apply or not, simply because that gets their item the most exposure in as many searches as possible.

I wish that wasn't the case, but ...
