If you have not obtained the game, yet, I suggest doing so -- it just went Out of Print.
----
Edit:
Or not. Apparently "Gygax Games" is being formed to continue support for the product line. |

Wow, I feel bad about all the LA enthusiasts here, particularly Deimos. I hope it can indeed come back. It's good to hear the focus will primarily be on the Castle Zagyg line for awhile until that is finished up, as that project has definitely taken a immortal's time to move anywhere, perhaps the renewed focus will help. Plus it is undoubtedly the more lucrative direction to head now, and when/if it makes Gygax Games some money maybe they can release a new version of LA.

The three-book LA set that I ordered from Hekaforge arrived today . . . should I have left it in the shrink?
Are Hekaforge and Troll Lord planning on blowout sales to get rid of backstock? Maybe at GenCon? |

Steve of TLG has said there would / might be a sale, but no details. Hekaforge (ICGD) is already having a sale. I would have left them shrink-wrapped, and bought another set to read. At the price they're going for, its not a bad deal. |

Thanks for the concern, Mike. I'm pretty upset but I will manage --it might well be another rough Friday night of drinking, though. It does feel like a slap in the face.
I have zero expectations for "Gygax Games", as they've dropped the ball completely on this one. It's up to the fans of the LA game to continue, and the situation is not unlike old-school D&D in that regard.
The big winners in all of this are the C&C fans, as it seems CZ will have more resources. Good luck with that project, Trolls.
JohnGaunt: I was not aware that the books were factory shrinked. Perhaps that's just extra packaging? |

Well, as always, I think it's up to the fans of the games to keep it going, the publishers notwithstanding. I wouldn't expect Gygax Games to do anything with LA for awhile, if ever. It sounds more like an economics issue than anything...LA couldn't have been a big money maker, and might have been propped up simply by the great man's presence itself rather than any market forces at work.

That's a little harsh. At least give them a chance to start doing something other than dropping licensees . . .

Possibly, but they appear to be shrinked as a set. I got the three LA books, the amusing Giant Fun Catalog, and a flyer promoting the set of four books. All the items were shrinkwrapped together.
The shrinkwrap was tough, flexible shrinkwrap, and not the crunchy, brittle cellophane, if that makes any sense. |

That is how it comes; my set is exactly as you described, John, bought straight from a retailer. |

Interesting stuff. The three core books were not originally sold in a set at all, it's a special package deal to get rid of overstock. Maybe he shrink-wrapped 'em together at some point. I assume the Giant Fun catalog is the Weyland Smith thingie? (Which I really like, incidentally.)
Unless Noble Knight purchased a bunch of these, I think serleran might be referring to the Essentials set instead, because he mentions he bought them from a retailer. The core book set that I'm referring to is only available directly from HFP/ICGD, to the best of my knowledge. I'll ask Chris when I get a chance, as we're going to be in an AD&D campaign together soon.
And yes, I need to get my butt in gear and get that demo campaign going on the chat. |

No, I am not referring to the Essentials box set (the one I do have did not come shrink-wrapped.) This is what I bought, all bundled together, in shrink. I have also found them separately, except the Weyland Smith Catalog (in a store, that is):
Lejendary Rules For All Players (Standard Edition)
Lejend Master's Lore (Standard Edition)
Beasts of Lejend (Standard Edition)
Weyland Smith and Co. Giant Fun Catalog
In fact, this is still in its shrink, if you would like a picture as evidence. I purchased it 2-3 years ago. |

Front cover:
Spine:
Back cover:
It bears product code: HFP2000 (HekaForge Publication/Press?) so it might be something done to clear out stock, but its been available for quite some time. |

I have mixed feelings about EGG's last game going on the OOP list.
On the one hand, my response to "focus on Castle Zagyg" is...duh, about time.
As for the return of Lejendary Adventures after making money on the Castle Zagyg project....I have mixed feelings about seeing the Gygax family make money only to lose it again.
I looked around at the Hekaforge.com website. Could not find any special pricing.
The Weyland Smith Catalogue is a cute product and has that old-school brown paper look. I have a copy.
Someone want to help sort out the Hekaforge books from the Troll Lord books? The Hekaforge books I just saw were almost ludicrously ugly...like a parody of some sort. |

I never knew there was a Hekaforge website. You should probably go to this one instead for the Hekaforge items:
http://www.fuzzyheroes.com/catalog.php
I don't know much about the Troll Lord items. |

I don't know if I could trust an RPG company whose website was functional with obvious, unbroken links and shiznit like that. Troll Lords, Flying Buffalo, Hekaforge . . . they aren't web page designers, so they have an excuse.
(1) http://www.fuzzyheroes.com/catalog.php?maincat=Hekaforge%20Productions
(2) Then click on the link that says "Core Rules". The link looks like plain text. It will take you here: http://www.fuzzyheroes.com/catalog.php?category=Core%20Rules
(3) The 3-book set with the Weyland Smith Catalogue is $25 + $5. My set came in a Flat-Rate Priority box, so the $5 doesn't actually cover the s/h.

The Hekaforge books have covers that explode with color. The interiors are standard black-and-white. Ugly = supersaturated colors? |
