I talked to the seller today...they indeed have a case they purchased from a failing business many moons ago....nice pickup for them, and reselling them at a very nice price consideriing that might have been the original price they sold for back in the day...

$18.40 postage to ship to Canada. How big is the package for this item?
Is that reasonable postage? |

He could ship First Class for way less than that, but that is around the actual cost for Priority International. |

Not that I care for the auction, but look down at the bottom of the description...

i have had one parcel go wrong to italy, but i do believe that was the fault of the buyer, not their postal system. as the book was returned to me, there was no biggie. i have shipped many times to italy otherwise, with no problems, and i see them as great folk to deal with.

That's true, but so it happens that Italy is quite full of Italians... |

That does sound rather unfair. You are lucky though that people here will happily act as postalconnectors and ship it on.
Hmmmm. Perhaps it is jealousy - of your food and your climate and your countryside, and the rather attractive people you have wandering around your town squares. I have a friend who lives in Tuscany, so I am lucky enough to pop over quite often. Last month I had I think the single best meal of my entire life there. And travelling through Pisa - lovely - a great chilled-out town with really friendly people. People have good reason to be envious |

I just sent a hardback copy of PHB, a TOEE Super Module, and a few other modules and papers to an Acaeum member in Canada.
It cost $23.95 for the Priority Box.
(The wieght was enough to make the other same sized box option no better bargain)
If there is a cheaper way to send a box, I would love to hear it.
Next time I will look at the rates for First Class. |

The world is so small. I live in Pisa, too. And I agree with most of the things you say, Italy (and Tuscany in particular) has a good deal of things making it very pleasant and interesting. But NOT when it all comes to efficiency, and that's where the postal system comes in... |

Italians are wonderful. The Italian Post Office leaves much to be desired. I have had several difficulties with shipments to Italy. I still ship there, but only by registered mail. And even that doesn't work sometimes! |

First Class Mail is only really cheaper if you are shipping 1 or 2 modules. As soon as you get into the hardcover book, First Class is probably around $8 + envelope, which makes the Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Envelope for $10 a more attractive option.
After that, the $24 Priority Box or $30 Priority Box are usually your best options. |

Please.....Give me a break. I am so sick of people screaming racism when it isn't even close. Take a look at the definition:
a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
Did he mention anything about he was superior or wish to rule over Italians? Get the F*** over it. He clearly states he doesn't ship to Italy in his auction, probably because your shitty postal service has screwed him in the past. Move on to a different auction and seller if you are so "offended." By the way, there isn't anything that states in any doument, manuscript, or otherwise that it is against any rule, law or organization that you have the right not to be offended. Give me a break.....racist. Perhaps you should right to Nelson Mandela to see if he thinks this would fit under the category of racism.
Perhaps his judgement is prejudice against Italy's postal service. Here is the definition for prejudice in case you need it also:
1. an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.
2. any preconceived opinion or feeling, either favorable or unfavorable.
3. unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, esp. of a hostile nature, regarding a racial, religious, or national group.
Sorry for the rant, but living in the southeast US, racism is a term that is too loosely thrown around for the matter of convenience for those who have had their feelings hurt. I'm off my soapbox now. |

No, please, YOU give me a break. Thank you for taking the time to look up the dictionary. Did you really need it to be sure it was exactly what you meant? Myself, I'm no ignorant, I know exactly what racism means, and I am perfectly conscious that there is no "racism" here. I would not even dare seriously invoke a racism issue for eBay purchases.
Now, what did I just say? Oh yeah, that's the key word in the matter. "Seriously". Of course I wouldn't dare do it seriously. But I think I'm allowed to do it as a joke, even if I see nobody wearing a white hood with "KKK" written on it, right?
Let's try to make it plain and very, very simple. I was a bit pissed off with that "no-shipping-to-Italy" issue, and I had two options to react. Either a rant over how annoying such sellers are, or take it the "good" way and cut it short with a sharp joke. Oh well, I might also swallow it and stay silent, but that's not the point of a "discussion forum".
I really did not want to offend someone, but if you are the only one who felt upset for the word, then maybe the real problem is that you did not see that I was not serious. I know that "even opportunities" and "fair treatment" are some of the issues of the century, those kinds of subjects for which someone going against the tide needs to be impaled, but I would like to think there is no witch-hunting in this forum. |

Italy is the only country I would flat out lie on a customs form, because anything over say $50 seems to disappear or be opened. Italy, and oddly enough Canada, have been the source of most of my problems in shipping. Using only priority mail has cut down immensely, but registered mail may be in the future.
