Just noticed our newest member is Highermobility - presumably the winner of this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290266757155& ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=019). A good buy, and it's nice to see new names around the big items.

Yet another newbie makes his way to Acaeum.

Great resource here. Found out about it from Dragonsfoot, wherin I also reside.

Not a collector per se, but I'm looking to replace worn out copies of stuff I had BITD, and get a few things I wanted, but never had the money nor opportunity.

Also newbie to EBay (same name). Didn't want to do it, but had to at some point I suppose. Got sniped in the last couple of seconds on my first target. There's a nice welcome for ya. [/i]

Heh. My primary residence is over on Dragonsfoot. I'm getting used to wild rides. Still working on going the full 8 seconds.

To echo some other “newbie’s”; I thought we were all dead and it was a 3.5v type (now 4.0 I hear) of world now…Imagine my pleasant surprise to see pages upon pages of alternately funny (sometimes unintended) and infuriating “sagas’ of collecting, buying, and selling. This is my first post of any type, pretty much anyplace, ever. I’ve “lurked” here for about a month or so, not one for lurking I thought introductions were in order.

My 1st exposure to D&D was some time ago, Christmas of 75” to be exact, received the 1st of the box sets (not wood grain but you can’t win ‘em all). The hardbacks, monos’, and Dragon magazines soon followed as they came out. Sadly I was 8 in 75” and none too good at taking care of my things (I’m assuming that being the fate of many of those items…LOL). But like game refereeing & playing as I matured so did “taking better care of my stuff”.

In regards to collecting AD&D materials I’m more of a minimalist, primarily interested in things that helped my refereeing or inspirations for adventures. By 85” I’d pretty much stopped buying mods altogether (I made my own). Mainly I collect vintage sword & sorcery, golden age sci-fi, and horror. Arkham House hardbacks, Weird Tales, REHUPA & Amra issues, esoteric materials such as chapbooks and private press by Necronimicon, Shroud and de la Ree being good examples…

As I’m new to posting, I’d appreciate it if I post in the wrong place being directed to the right one, I’m pretty quick on the “uptake” so shouldn’t be too bad. Thanks in advance for a great site and your patience with a novice. Wink

collectively (no pun intended) we'd probably be able to make a dent in the national debt with all those goodies we got as kids had we not used 'em as pizza plates, coasters...well you name it!

After lurking and asking a few questions I decided to be more social, chuckle. I encountered d&d in 1981 or 1982 in Florida. I remember when the kid across the street got the expert box set and we loved it. My parents wouldn't buy d&d or let me have it in the house so I didn't play again for a couple of years. I did some weekend long dungeons with friends in high school then I played a bit in college and then moved on to Everquest but remained interested in d&d. When DDO came out I played for a while then I played Vanguard actively until this summer when i went to the sony Fan Faire in Las Vegas. I ended up skipping half the fan faire to play d&d 4th edition all weekend with the game designers and some of my guild. I came home and promptly quite the guild and found two gaming groups locally.

I am a lifelong collector of various stuff and I collected some d&d over the last decade including the 1st D&D with the Cthulha material. Lately, I have been grabbing things on ebay, etc. Because of cost, etc. I haven't yet decided to chase the rare modules, instead focusing on original art, plastic minis, promotional items, employee gifts, etc. Other than art, I think my favorite items so far are the Alliance Dungeon Master Screen (#3), the "Snowball Beholder" or the sw d&d Clue game.

I would like a 1st woodgrain in great shape, a pinball machine, the video games and unusual 4th edition and/or promotional items. A fist of emirikol and faction dice hint, hint. chuckle. Like most collectors, I routinely get outbid but sometimes don't.

Also, my wife played in the early 80's with her brother. Apparently, her mother bought a whole stack of OCE's and modules on sale at the px and they used them as birthday gifts for friends for a couple of years.
I learned this when I saw his OCE and manuals about ten years ago, but unfortunately he sold them on ebay without telling us so we didn't know to bid on them, blah.

Nothing like recreating a childhood that wasn't sanctioned the first time around, hehe. I am just glad her brothers set was oce and not woodgrain!

Good luck finding that 1st print woodgrain . . . .

I do seem to recall someone posted not long ago having just gotten a pinball machine. The Burntwire Brothers, I think.

I have known of this site, and have visited it quite frequently in the past months, so I figured what the hell, and signed up Smile

My name is Jorge, born in Cuba, but living in Miami, FL for a long time. I am 35 and remember playing my first DnD game at the ripe ol age of 9 in 1982, ahhh the memories in the Caves of Chaos...

I have been collecting on and off for about 5 years...I have about 200 pieces or so..to be quite honest, I dont have alot of the rare stuff...but recently been more and more interested in expanding my collection.

This is a great site, with alot of great information, thanks for those that take the time to maintain the site, as well as how friendly the community is here to help each other out.

Welcome to all the recent newbies. Your collections will grow; its a side effect of this website. Another side effect is the longing to experience Gencon in Indy. Many of us meet up at Gencon every year and have a fantastic time. We even have an annual dinner to start Gencon off with a blast. I hope that you will be able to join us in the near future.
