Doug, bad bad bad timing... at the end of october (30-31oct 1-2nov) there is the biggest rpg event in italy in a town near florence (Luccagames)... special guest Larry Elmore and other "bigs of the industry"...

In any case, have fun!

I must agree. Anybody thinking to come over here on the occasion?

Still, always a pleasure when someone states he likes our country...

Doug, do you want any of us to mail you something while you are there?  We can test the Italian Postal System and all that.  Smile Can you take pictures of Italian postmen and see if they exist?   Very Happy

Italian Postmen do exist. I met them all the time coming to the store.  Very Happy

Well, didn't know about the event or I would have come a couple of weeks later....

I haven't seent ANY postmen, though I have seen a few post offices.

Met up with Luca and his fiance (Valleria - she's hot), yesterday afternoon. They took us all over Bologna and we ate at a nice place and the food was very good. Was nice having a 'translator' with us for sure.

Anyway, we missed the last train out of town, and was unable to get a hotel room for the night since some conference was in town.

Luca wouldn't let us sleep at the train station, so they drove us all the way back to Fiesole (dropped us off at 0100 and they had to be back at work in the morning with a 1.5 hour drive back) ...

We hope to meet them again on Saturday and treat them for the entire day (they paid for dinner and I couldn't convince them to let me pay).

Luca & Valleria for King and Queen Smile

He probably ate a big plate of spaghetti and meatballs with sauce and the Ghost Tower was being used as a coaster...what a sicko!

Yeah, pewter coasters, specifically.

(Okay, I know, only a selected portion of Italians can understand this one)

Beautiful Country. Beautiful People. Great Food (I have distant relatives in Sicily). I heard that phone and internet service was expensive though?

I was there about 4 years ago when my brother was married in a small town called IL Borro (which is near a slightly larger town called Arezzo), which is about an hour north of Rome on the A-1 Autostrada (which is beautiful to drive on btw...).

I took 4 years of Spanish in high school, so with an English-to-Itallian dictionary, and my first day in Italy watching their version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" (to look at their sentence structure), I was getting by on my Itallian.

The only big mistake (which on looking back was pretty stupid on my part), was in asking for directions, I used the personal (ti) instead of the neutral (si). And the cute girl I was asking the question to snapped back at me pretty rudely when she corrected me...   Surprised

Too bad we don't have a better public transportation system here in the US like they do in Italy though, since gas prices aren't going down anytime soon...
