So, what's the scoop on GenCon auctions?  What was notable, what was overpriced, what was a steal? Very Happy

I mentioned a bit already here:

http://www.acaeum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=118536&highlight=#118536

I'm sure someone has a better handle on the official prices and conditions but here's what I recall for some of the items that sold:

Lost Tamoachan (EX+) #28  $1100
Lost Tamoachan (EX+) #51  $1150
POTVQ 1st (NM) $1200
D&D Brown Box, 3rd (F) $875
Orange B3 (NM) $1000
Fazzlewood (NM) $860
Character Archaic, 2nd (?) $400
Frank's manuscripts went for $200+ each.

Quite a few additional items to be added.

Unfortunately, Frank's DM copy of Inverness didn't sell.  It was missing two 11X17 pages.  What a shame considering no more than 8 DM copies were produced.

I'm suprised that the Brown Box only sold for $875.00

From what I saw of it in the glass display case, it didn't look that bad...

It was pretty roughed up inside and out.  I think it was missing a side to the box top and one or more of the corners were torn.  Lots of mold and rust on the books IIRC.  Not nearly as bad as one of the white boxes though.  I dont remember if it was the 5th or one of the 6th printings that was just total crap.

Yeah, it was a pretty rough copy (fair condition) but no mold, just staining from campaigning...  It was also missing a side to the box and the Men & Magic cover had separated.  Several other defects/damage.  Perhaps I paid a little more than I should but at least I now have a third print.

So sorry.

True enough that I pull anything with mold and isolate it in a (fresh) trash bag, simply to avoid cross-infection. The lousy-shape Brown we had didn't require such extreme measures tho.

That PVQ was ultra-clean, from Fonarow's collection.
'twas an extra/spare for T&T so Jon unloaded it.

Thanks dbartman!  Some very intersting prices in there.

I'm surprised that the R2 went so low (must not have been in good shape?), and same with the Gorgonstar Titan, while the Outdoor Geos and R3 went very high!

I bought the R2 for $100. My grading standards may not be as tough as some of the other people here, but I thought it was in good shape. There is some cover wear but the inside is great.

The only thing is that one of the maps was outlined to make it a little darker (I almost didn't even notice) and some guy named Frank Mentzer scribbled his name on the title page.

I was glad to get it since the other three R modules are available as PDFs and now I have them all in some fashion.
