Southsea models - wow - just wow. I'd forgotten what game stores were like. Interesting article though, this chap was leaking a grand a month just staying open!
As it goes I think I preferred it before the refit.
(And will anyone admit to going down there and offering him cash for the contents of his store room!!)
I wish him well - lord knows there are not enough bricks and mortar stores, particularly here in the UK |
Interesting this. I am only about 45mins from there and with the ST1 auction may be worth a visit.
I never knew he was still going, as I remember seeing his ads in the old WD and more recently in Imagine mags, so it was interesting to see the actual shop... what an utter cave of stuff though, may actually be somethings worth having a look at...
although having now seen the whole tv episode, it does now look like a generic GW shop, which may be a shame |

Hi,
at Games Day you could buy as many as you liked. I got the impression it was "Please, take them away". There wasn't a queue.
I have heard thru the grapevine that Marshall really isnt into roleplaying at all, and that the shop may be a "front" to clean money from nefarious activities. TBH I know of several UK games dealers that do the same...
Given that a) all his Ebay auctions are Private, and b) the shop is still there after so many years with other games shops close by and c) I can never remember speaking to him much at Conventions (and boy, do the Dealers yack at Conventions if we have the same interests) then those theories are possible.
I can't believe there would be anything interesting cheap left, or Coug would have had it, as he lives close.
If you do visit him, you could call in on Coug and say Hello from Us All!
Cheers,
Malc |

I think if I were to visit the Coug, I'd count my teeth as I left and probably wipe my shoes on the way out.....
I couldnt think of anything I'd rather do less than meet that no-mark!
However, with your observations on the possible southsea model shops activities, maybe I'll visit incognito and you're right the Ctard would have picked up all the cheap items by now!
To be honest, whilst it may be a fun trip to have a look-see around, I'd have rather visited the old shop with all the old stuff knocking about.. those sort of shops just don't exist anymore and thats a shame |

Feeling your pain, bet even thinking about breathing hurts....
But done that and recently recovered from a dislocated nose, which is also very painful post op...You'd be surprised how much your nose moves when you don't want it to! |

Three reasons why I dont go shopping the day after Thanksgiving and never will:
1) I used to work retail and know first hand just how a normally nice person can become an evil prick in less than two seconds.
2) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27957714/
3) http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27955316
It would be great if they were able to identify all the people that trampled that guy at the Wal-Mart and charge them with manslaughter. What a nice Christmas present that would be. |

"Shop till you drop!"
like looking through the wrong end of a telescope, "the space age" might just refer to dense social packing. |

Ah, nice to know witless, thoughtless, racist, moronic college students aren't all confined to the University of Texas campus :
http://www.charlatan.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2097 7&Itemid=148
Basically, Canada's Carleton University's Student association voted to stop donating money to cystic fibrosis because the disease wasn't "diverse" enough, and only affected "whites and men" (not true, btw). Presumably, they wanted to start collecting donations for a more "inclusive" disease in the future.
Nice to see, though, after a few days of getting hammered by fellow students, faculty, the media, and those suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, the Student's association back tracked and did the right thing...including booting the clueless members that proposed the entire motion.

What's shocking is the one who presented the original proposal defended his actions to the bitter end, AND had followers/supporters....

Don't even get me started on university student associations. I have been around Canadian universities for too long now and can't understand why the university gives any power to these organizations.
Did you know that most universities in Canada force students into buying a bus pass? Usually for the fee of $100+ more in the student fees including a handling fee charged by the student union for collecting the money. To get the discounted price, each student is charged for the bus pass whether they want it or not.
Another good example is the student pub back in my home town of Thunder Bay. Here's the scenario: student bar, very nice, on campus, packed on 2 or 3 nights a week (also the 2nd largest on campus pub in Ontario). The campus is also slightly isolated so the on campus pub is very convenient. Would you believe that they pub was losing money, and lots of it? It turned out that the biggest problem was that members of the student union, would get into all events for free though the back door and would bring their friends with them. Also, they felt it was fine to walk off with free cases of beer and liquor. At one point the bank put a hold on the student union bank account so other university clubs didn't get their money because the student union owed too much for what the pub was losing - ridiculous. |

You're from Thunder Bay, Mars? Never been there, but I have spent a lot of time down the shore northern Minnesota, and across the water on Isle Royale, in northern WI (Chewamegon), and on the UP. Very pretty around there, plus lots of Human Beings. |

Yep. Metropolitan Thunder Bay is a whopping 120,000 and decreasing. Some of the features include the nearest larger city is Winnipeg, about a 7 hour drive away then Minneapolis, 10 hour drive away. It is nice to drive 15 minutes out of town to be in basically complete wilderness.
The Sleeping Giant was named as one of Canada's Natural Wonders or something like that too:
EDIT: Uhm, these two strange people jumped in the way of the picture. |
