Ok folks, I'll take a minute to post.... I am just swamped at work so no time of late, but Mike & Matt mentioned people were discussing the site so I figured I'd chime in real quick...
I'll start with.. I an not fond the classifieds here and at Dragonsfoot... like Mike mentioned, you can't post replies, no easy follow up to know if it's still available (or in the case of Dragonsfoot, many off topic chatter to the point you forget what's offered for sale in the first place) etc... .. now with the recent ebay crap ... I figured... let's setup a site that members of the Acaeum & Dragonsfoot could use for selling, swapping, etc
I spent a few late nights setting up 3 different softwares until I decided I liked this one, spent $85.00 for one, $249.00 for another and about $325.00 (including addons and more to come ) for this one... bought 2 domains for 10 years at $149.00/ea and a 10 year SSL certificate for $149.00 ... and unless you need a store with more than 25 items... or you just have to have your items posted on the main page... it's all FREE ... so you can display ALL your items as auctions for up to 30 days with up to 12 auto relistings for free...
Now... I wanted to set it up, ask a hand full of users to come use it, test it, etc and eventually I'd post something on it.... Matt posted some items and was excited to have such a site... more than me it seems... Mike also wanted to let people know as well... I said sure, if you guys want to post that's fine.. but since I set it up, and imported my 65 items from eBay, me posting looks like I am pimping my own items... and that's not what the site is about....
This site does allow you to make swaps, offers etc... not just auctions and stores
So... on to address some posts:
Brian - if I do have people that choose to use the pay features of the site (there are only 2 such features) and some how I do make money, I'll donate it here to the Aceaum... that's all I can do.. I think you'd be a great addition on the site with your insight on who people are...
Megnewil - I did get SSL on the site, it was in the works since I did get a request to add Google Check Out... which is another $49.00 addon I need to buy and I had to have SSL setup first...
Serleran - I have opened up to gmail.com, hotmail.com, and yahoo.com so more users can register. But by default, users are only buyers, not sellers. As a seller I may require more info as I want to know sellers are reputable. I'll cover the various acceptable verifications in a bit...
Mercenary_Roadie - yes some pages are lacking information, I just set this thing up over the weekend and invited 5 people to take a look at it... I am taking suggestions and implementing what I can when I can... I work from about 0500-2300 most days... so time on the site is in the night when I am suppose to be sleeping .. I'll get more info there as soon as I can... again, I hadn't wanted to go "public" with the site until is was complete, but Mike & Matt are like kids with a new toy
Zhowar - email: covered, again, I haven't posted til now since I wasn't really ready for the site to be publicly known just yet.. but the cat's out of the bag so to speak. Hope to see you there at some point.
Xaxaxe - the only way I can approve of sellers is a bit "nazistic" since I don't want a Coug or some other lamer registering and trying to sell...
which brings me to how I want to try and approve of sellers...
Since there is a community both here and at Dragonsfoot, many people know other people on their respective sites if not from both sites. Anyone from either site can PM me from either site or send me a message from your eBay account to my eBay account. I have been reading the site for 6-7 years, just not posting... so if for some reason I don't know who you are, I will ask around, then I'll approve the account to sell... rather easy and not intrusive since you're being approved by your piers, not me personally.
I do have to state on the site that I'll call, do a reverse lookup on phones, addresses, (even IPs get me phone numbers and addresses with some ISPs) ... point is, if a bad eBayer or a Coug wants to sell, there will be multiple layers to catch the bad apples... hopefully it's not an issue. I would presume the majority of members will come from Acaeum & Dragonsfoot...
I will reply to emails if you have questions, but I may not be able to respond to this thread regularly since I am busy and email is easier to respond to... (though I will take time to buy that Dragon on eBay if it's not gotten too high !) .. oh and that B3 is looking nice... |

I just made my first sale, there, yippee. Thanks Sheeadog. Nice to pocket the 57 cents ebay would have taken, and I was able to give Sean a shipping discount as a result. Fifty seven cents, think I'll go get a bagel or something.

I was directed to this site by badmike and at first glance it looks great (even if it's still not completely setup yet). I can definitely see myself looking here for something before going over to ebay. Being able to buy with a reasonable assumption of good quality in terms of sellers and product is a definite plus. It'll also be nice to search and not having to see a whole bunch of crap that has nothing to do with "D&D"... |

Don't suppose there's any chance of toning that blue background down on the items listings? It's hurting my brain. |

I think that's the seller's fault...if you mark your item "highlighted" I think it gives the items that look. None of mine are but I also didn't use the highlighting option.

That's okay - I'm just getting things kicked off by raising a few complaints. I assume you want us users to behave as normal? |

"Suggested areas to improve" rather than complaints... |

But I'm on a roll, I was just about to move seamlessly into bitching.
Mike, try sticking:
| Code: | | <?php if (substr_count($_SERVER['HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING'], 'gzip')) ob_start("ob_gzhandler"); else ob_start(); ?> |
...at the top of the main render script provided the relevant compression mod is installed and active. Should improve speed a lot and stop the table jumping issues. Might just break the site of course, depends on the software design too, but always worth a try. Saves cash the bandwidth charges too, if not unlimited.
Can I PLEASE have my seller account now? Pretty please? |

Excellent work on the site!
For some of those who have items up, you might want to remove the eBay criteria......might confuse some into thinking that they have been redirected to eBay |

Well, I got my store setup and my first auction listed. I've used Delta Green Eyes Only as a test subject because I measured carefully how much attention it drew on eBay. Be interesting to look at very early comparisons.
The store admin, listing procedures take a bit of getting used to but once it all clicks things are pretty straightforward. So far I haven't paid a penny in fees! And all my [support] enquiries have been answered within 30 minutes. It almost seems too easy. Now for the key stage, will it sell? |

There is a Bulk Lister... when you are in the "Members Area", thre is a "Bulk" icon you can click on. In that are instructions on the software and a link to download it from the site.
Be sure to get updates from the site on occasion since new categories and the like will need to be downloaded to your copy once installed.
Then you can setup a number of items and post them at once.
The FAQ also has a help file on how to use eBay's Turbo Lister to download anything you already have on eBay and then import it to the site with the Bulk Lister.

megnelwil: You should also list your items in Both the Site and the Store...
Reason: Even if you don't choose the .05 "front page feature" your items still get listed in 2 other place son the front page...
The "Recently Listed Auctions" (not store entries... so Site Auctions)
Ending Soon...
So to get FREE front page exposure, setup some 3 day "auctions" that auto relist 12 times, and they will be on the front page "ending soon" list and of course the Recently Listed Auctions as well... |

Looks good, bookmarked, and when I get a chance I'll sign up as a buyer, and then as a seller. At least we won't have to get flummoxed by the silly eBay D&D categories for individual cards, etc.
And if some seller would like to list a bunch of DCCs from 37-52 then I'll buy them from you off this site. |
