Greeting, now that my collection is comming out of storage I should be able to get the rpg magazine index underway, so I'm looking for comments on how poepl would like it set up/look/ etc as an example of it please click here...

http://www.arielarchives.com/Brett/Magazines/index.html

I have included 1 page  "Australian Realms" issue 1 as an example (since I had it already done elsewere;) . I will also be doing a pure text list of each individual magazine and a masters one as well listing all of them... like on shannons webpage

http://www.erzo.org/~shannon/gaming/indices/glorantha-index.shtml

comments people? (if anyone cares that is)

Brette:)

Cover Scans of each issue would be nice. Not necessarily full page scans. Maybe just thumbnails. Enough to let a collector know what he's looking for, but not enough to encourage would-be fraudsters.

Looking Good. Nice and clear.

Cover scans are a given...

http://www.arielarchives.com/Brett/magazines/australianrealms01.html

has a thumbnail of the cover and if you click on the cover you get a full size scan of the cover as well

Will there be thumbnails for all your magazines/fanzines?

Thumbnails may also help to stop people buying fakes, like those issued of The Wanderer I bought. It would have been immediately obvious that they were fake if I could have compared them to a database.

I've flagged up the Gamelords Fakes on my site just incase anyone stumles across it.

I wouldn't mind a collection of Australian Realms myself.

I think it looks great Brett, especially with the Table of Contents for each issue and a cover scan.  Very nice work and a real contribution to the collecting community, thank you.

Be sure you don't replicate other work that Shannon did, Brette:  no need to add additional work for yourself:

Other than those indeces, is there any other information on that site? Cover scans, printing info etc?

The indeces are no use to you if you don't have the magazines. And if you already have the magazines, you don't need the indeces. Pictures of what the magazines look like would be really useful to those who don't know anything about them but want to collect D&D stuff.

Just my 2c as a newbie magazine/fanzine collector.

Well, they are very useful if you are looking only for issues with articles on particular subjects (say, Call of Cthulhu) or by certain authors (say, Paul Jacquays). It saves you from buying every issue to find those articles.

Thats why I'll be doing that, nothing more annoying than wanting to find a particular article and going through x number of mags to find the thing...

I took it to be just a big index. If it had the magazine contents I'd buy one.

Hey Brette. I was just searching the forums for 'Australian Realms' and happened upon this old thread and your index effort. Are you still working on this?

Actually, I put in low bids on that recent lot of Australian Relams by binagran and was surprised to win six of the issues. My question is - do you know how many issues were published?

Fantastic! Thanks.

I was just looking at your items wanted pages. I am pretty sure I went to CanCon in 83 and 84! But I very much doubt I still have any of the entry forms. I'll have to dig through some deep buried boxes. I have a few with HighSchool stuff somewhere - you never know....
