Lendore Isles Series (L1 - L3)                          Home Upclick thumbnails to enlarge

Three unrelated modules designed for novice AD&D characters.  Often referred to as the "Lakofka Series", due to author Lenard Lakofka.

L1 Secret of Bone Hill by Len Lakofka
L2 Assassin's Knot
by Len Lakofka
L3 Deep Dwarven Delve
by Len Lakofka

The working title for L1 Secret of Bone Hill was "The Restenford Mystery".  According to former TSR employee Lawrence Schick, Erol Otus deliberately botched the rear-cover art on L1, because he didn't care for the module.  We'll let you decide.  The entire module has been released in electronic, freely-distributable format by TSR, and is available in our Library section.

L2 Assassin's Knot comes with a double cover (module booklet nested inside two covers of maps).  Thanks to Eric Pass for this info.  The entire module has been released in electronic, freely-distributable format by TSR, and is available in our Library section.

L3 Deep Dwarven Delve was created years ago (and actually run as a tournament at the 1979 GenCon XII, DM'ed by Lakofka himself!), but was only recently completed and publicly released in August 1999.  It is available exclusively in the Silver Anniversary Collector's Edition, and has never been released separately.  Thanks to Adam Shultz for help with this info.

Len Lakofka (author of all three L-series modules) stated in mid 2000 that modules L4 and L5 are in an unfinished state, and it would be a "200-hour project" to bring them to production level.  He estimates a 15% chance that he will do so in the near future.  Module L4 is to be set in Kroten and the Trollheim Mountains. (Thanks to Daniel Thingvold for this info).  Please pass along any further details you should hear about L4 or L5!

Printing Information

There are no distinguishable printings of L3 Deep Dwarven Delve (thanks to Norbert Jakobs for the scan).

L1 Secret of Bone Hill

  • First (1981):  TSR Face logo.  ISBN on back cover bottom left.

  • Second:  TSR Face logo.  ISBN on back cover bottom left, Product Number on back cover bottom right.

  • Third:  TSR Face logo.  ISBN and Product Number on back cover bottom left, but are offset left from the rest of the back-cover text; Piece Code back cover bottom right.  (Thanks to Mike Kuo and Adrian Newman for this info).

  • Fourth:  TSR Face logo.  ISBN and Product Number on back cover bottom left, but are now flush left with the rest of the back-cover text;  Piece Code back cover bottom right.  (Thanks to Adrian Newman for this info).
L2 Assassin's Knot
  • First:  Angled TSR logo.

  • Second:  Contents identical to First, but has a cardboard header glued to the top of the module, with the D&D logo and some other advertising.  The module itself, separated from the header, is indistinguishable from a First printing.  Thanks to Adrian Newman for the scan.

  • Third:  No cardboard header.  Identical to the previous prints, aside from the addition of a white barcode box on the rear left cover.  Thanks to Michael Deaton for this info.

Auction Commentary & History

The Second printing of L2 Assassin's Knot, with the header intact, is fairly rare.  SW condition assumes the header is present.  The Estimated Value on this print is highly subjective, since only recently have we realized its rarity.

L3 is only available inside the Silver Anniversary Collector's Edition, which would seem to indicate that its worth is but a fraction of the complete set.  eBay has proven otherwise, however, and mint-condition L3's regularly sell for as much or more than the set in its entirety.  The unfortunate side-effect of this valuation is, of course, that many Silver sets are being opened to remove the L3 inside.
