Originally printed as a tournament module for Origins 79,
and later updated to a module for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.
Lost Tamoachan: The Hidden Shrine of Lubaatum by Harold Johnson
& Jeff Leason
C1 Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan by Harold Johnson & Jeff Leason
There are three distinct versions of this module. The original
was titled Lost Tamoachan: The Hidden Shrine of Lubaatum. Only
300 numbered copies (plus some others... see below) were printed for sale
at Origins 1979. It was later reprinted as C1 The Hidden Shrine
of Tamoachan (note the change in title) with a pastel (monochrome) brown
cover, and finally with a brown color cover. Note that the original
printing does not have a TSR#, nor does it bear the code "C1".
Lost Tamoachan is extremely rare and will require special emphasis when
referring to it (the difference in the titles will probably not be enough).
See also the other "Collector's Edition" module,
Ghost Tower of Inverness.
- First (1979): Titled "Lost Tamoachan", with "Collector's
Edition" in upper left. Blue monochrome cover, bagged (not bound),
cover art by Dave Sutherland. The serial number of the module
is hand-printed in the upper left corner. A registry of known
copies is at the bottom of this page. In addition to the numbered
copies, the following unnumbered copies were printed:
- 50 Dungeon Master's Copies (given to tournament DMs).
Labeled "Dungeon Master" in the upper left corner, where the number
normally would be
- 25 Staff Copies (given to TSR staff). Staff copies
do not have any writing in the upper left corner
- Unknown amount of Complementary Copies (spelled wrong).
Labeled "Complementary" in the upper left corner. These may
have been the "Designer Copies" for this module
- Thanks to William Meinhardt and Paul Stormberg for this info,
and to William Meinhardt for the scan of the Staff Copy and Complementary
Copy
- Second (1980): Monochrome. Cover art of fire-breathing
bat-monster. No ISBN on cover or interior.
- Third: Monochrome. Cover art of fire-breathing
bat-monster. Cover is identical to the Second print, but the ISBN
number can be found on the lower left cover of the interior booklet,
just below "Printed in the USA" (thanks to
Slaheddine
Kefi for this info).
- Fourth (1980-81): Dark brown, color cover, with cover
art of a green giant. ISBN (only) on back cover bottom left.
- Fifth (1982): Dark brown, color cover. ISBN back
cover bottom left, Product Number back cover bottom right. 32-page
text booklet is packaged inside the 8-page illustration booklet.
- Sixth (1983+): Dark brown, color cover. ISBN
back cover bottom left, Product Number back cover bottom right.
This printing has the 8-page illustration booklet packaged inside the
32-page text booklet (all other editions have text booklet within illustration
booklet); interior scuff errors cleaned from printing plates.
The Estimated Values for Lost Tamoachan assumes a numbered
copy. A DM's Copy or Staff Copy would fetch considerably more.
